INSCMagazine: Get Social!

There is an impending sense of doom that sprawls across aquatic life, which is on the edge of a massive disaster. Our marine ecosystems are on the verge of destruction and face many threats like overfishing, acidification, trash, ocean noise, and climate change. Ocean conservation is the need of the hour, and developing innovative solutions to save our oceans must be on top of the global agendas.

Unfortunately, industrial neglect, the ever-growing killing of marine life, and the destruction of their habitat seem far more common. However, some content creators and photographers have dedicated their lives to the oceans. Their honest depiction of all that happens under the oceans is encouraging many to rethink their ways and feel the urge to save the oceans for future generations.

Jason Borklan, a passionate PADI technical & shark diver, has made it his life’s mission to play an active role in protecting the oceans and using his skills to save the planet. According to Jason, the crisis in our oceans is due to the lack of connection between humans and nature. He hopes to overcome this problem by partnering with conservation agencies and producing photographs and videos of all that goes under the sea to inspire and educate others.

As conservation is essential for survival, his efforts to generate content that forces people to think and make ocean conservation a part of their daily lives is truly noteworthy.

Jason is an avid supporter of saving sharks and openly voices his concerns about the killing of sharks through his social media @jasonborkland. Sharks have an important role in the ecosystem and are responsible for the health and balance of oceans. Their presence encourages the abundance and diversity of species under the sea; without them, marine life would be destroyed.  According to Jason, healthy oceans mean an abundance of sharks, and considering the drastic decrease in sharks’ lives in the oceans and a few species close to extinction, sharks need to be saved.

In order to pursue marine advocacy, he has volunteered his time and expertise at Texas State University’s protected marine area at Spring Lake, and he provided his expertise as a professional diver and underwater photographer for scientific research to Fins Attached,  a Colorado-based nonprofit focused on shark research and marine conservation.

Jason creates content that conveys the wonders of the natural world to his viewers and encourages a positive change in mindset and behaviors. As he has seen the world under the waves with his own eyes, he aspires to show the beautiful realms of the unseen world to others too.

Apart from his passion for adventure and marine advocacy, Jason is a proud dad of two beautiful children who inspire and motivate him each day to work harder for the future of the world.
