Filmmaker Sebastian Sommer, known for the feature film Dragon, is leaving the film world behind and beginning a new chapter as a video game designer.

Sommer gained recognition in 2024 with Dragon, a project that stood out for its use of artificial intelligence in both visuals and storytelling. The film was one of the earliest indie productions to fully integrate AI into the creative process, drawing attention from both film critics and tech press for its unconventional approach.

With his next project, Sommer is stepping into gaming. His first title, Eclipse Town, is in development under his studio, Infinity Lens. While specific details remain scarce, Sommer has said that the interactive nature of games offers more opportunities for experimentation than traditional filmmaking. “I had people who haven’t shown at any major film festivals or even sold a movie, pretend like they were better than me.” said Sommer. “I had delusional people who were obsessed with social media and their image act like they were better than me. What a joke. Honestly. I am very happy to be moving on.”

The decision reflects a larger trend of artists crossing into the gaming industry, which has become one of the most significant platforms for storytelling and design. Sommer’s pivot shows how creators are exploring new ways to engage audiences beyond the limits of film.

No release date has been announced for Eclipse Town, but the project marks Sommer’s transformation from filmmaker to game designer.
