Liverpool FC confirmed today that Liverpool legend and Captain Steven Gerrard will leave Liverpool at the end of the season to join the five-time MLS Cup Champion Los Angeles Galaxy as a designated player at the end of the English Premier League Calender.

Gerrard announced on Friday he would end a 25-year association with the club when his contract expires at the end of the season. Gerrard will be best remembered for his time being the Liverpool Captain and winning the UEFA Champions League in 2005 taking down Italian side A.C Milan (3-3) Liverpool won 3-2 on penalties.

Gerrard is also notable for leading Liverpool to 9 other major trophies over the past 15 years,, UEFA Cup (2001), UEFA Super Cup (2001, 2005), FA Cup (2001, 2006), FA Community Shield (2006) and League Cup (2001, 2003, 2012)

Gerrard commented on the move saying:

“I’m very excited to begin the next chapter of my career in the United States with LA Galaxy,” Gerrard said in a statement. “The Galaxy are the most successful club in Major League Soccer history, and I am looking forward to competing for more championships in the years to come. My discussions with Bruce Arena and Chris Klein were extremely positive, and the future of the team is very bright.”

Gerrard will join a high caliber LA Galaxy team joining Irishman Robbie Keane at forward. This of course would be a quick replacement after assist king and MLS Legend Landon Donovan retired from professional football after the Galaxy won the MLS Cup in early December.

In 17 seasons with Liverpool, he has made 695 appearances while scoring 180 goals to date in all competitions.

The Los Angeles Galaxy will open up the  2015 MLS Regular Season on Friday March 6th against the Chicago Fire at the Stubhub Center in Carson, California.
