Which NFL teams have to win this week? It may seem like an exaggeration, but some of these clubs are in dire situations. Here are some of the clubs that need to win this week.

Detroit Lions

Detroit’s hold on the NFC North is tenuous now because of the resurgence of Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. The Lions have shot themselves in the foot with their kicker issues, and last week, it cost them a chance to go 4-1.

The position is finally stabilized with the signing of former Bronco Matt Prater. It is a huge game for the team this week.

They need to beat the Minnesota Vikings for two reasons. One, it is a division game and those are critical. Two, with the Saints and Falcons coming up, they need to win the perceived easier games to keep up with Green Bay.

If the Lions lose, they are in big trouble, particularly if Calvin Johnson is out for an extended period of time.

Cleveland Browns/Pittsburgh Steelers

It is a huge AFC North showdown between two bitter rivals. Although the Steelers have dominated the Browns historically, it seems like Cleveland is finally capable of beating them. Once again, it is a division game.

A victory will help the winner keep up with the Cincinnati Bengals, the current division leader.

I think that a win would do wonders for the psyches of both teams. It would give the Browns a huge confidence booster. They are a team that seems to be on the cusp of a breakthrough. This game may be the moment where everything finally comes together.

The Steelers have a chance to get back on track after two bad performances in a row. Both teams are vulnerable, so it could go either way.

Chicago Bears/Atlanta Falcons

These two teams are 2-3 entering Week 6. Chicago and Atlanta have lost two in a row and badly need a win. They are only one game out of first place in their respective divisions. That makes it a must-win game for both sides.

That being said, the Falcons have a harder schedule than the Bears, so their margin for error is smaller. Both teams are similar to each other.

They are great on offense, but flawed on defense. It may come down to which quarterback makes the smarter decisions. I have more faith in Matt Ryan than Jay Cutler in that department.

New York Jets

This team has been a disaster. Geno Smith hasn’t been playing well. The secondary is mediocre. There are too many problems with the Jets to list all of them. Rex Ryan is on the hot seat. It isn’t his fault because he has been given little to work with.

Worst of all they have to play the Denver Broncos.

The Jets need a win to quiet the critics and to get their confidence back. Unfortunately for them, it is very hard to stop the Denver offense.  There is always a chance that New York could somehow squeak out a win. The game will likely be a blowout in favor of Denver.

It will probably be another week of tabloids and talk radio meltdowns in the Big Apple.
