INSCMagazine: Get Social!

There’s no question that the United States needs to overhaul its curriculum when it comes to sex education. Currently  federal government funds abstinence only programs, which are ineffective.

What makes it worse is that schools bring in guest speakers as a tool to promote the idea of abstinence. Recently A high school student by the name of Katelyn Campbell who attends George Washington High School in West Virginia refused to attend an assembly in which Pam Stenzel spoke on the subject.

Yet, got forced to attend by principal George Aulenbacher. Stenzel’s tactics included saying “if you take birth control, your mother probably hates you” and “I could look at any one of you in the eyes right now and tell if you’re going to be promiscuous.”

Campbell has filed an injunction against Aulenbacher as he threatened to call Wellesley College to report that she has “bad character.” He also stated “how would you feel if I called your college and told them what bad character you have and what a backstabber you are?”

The reason for this is due to her going to the press and communicating her objection to the assembly.

With the injunction and by going to the ACLU, Campbell will continue to let her voice be heard. In regards to Aulenbacher she said “he threatened me and my future in order to put forth his own personal agenda and make teachers and students feel they cant speak up because of fear of retaliation.”

As for Wellesly she doesn’t have to worry with this Tweet of support.

For principal Aulenbacher the school administration should terminate his employment immediately his actions were inexcusable. It’s also a great opportunity for dialogue across the US for implementing and getting the federal government to fund comprehensive sex education.
