Kwon Alexander might not be a household name yet, but that’s about to change. The second-year linebacker has exceeded all expectations during his time in the NFL. He’s one of the league’s fastest-rising stars, and by the end of the season might even add a defensive player of the year award to his mantle.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are no stranger to featuring young talent. With Jameis Winston, Mike Evans, and Alexander, the team is primed to take themselves into the upper echelon of NFL teams. Although Alexander might be the best of the bunch, as he’s become one of the most dominating forces in all of the league.

Last season was a breakout year for Alexander. A fourth-round pick in 2015, he was named to the Pro Football Writers Association All-Rookie team. Only starting 12 games, Alexander recorded 93 total tackles and three sacks. He easily out produced his fourth round selection, giving the Buccaneers an another promising young player to build around.

Nobody could predict the start he would have for the 2016-17 season. We knew Alexander was a good player, but what he did in Week 1 was downright absurd. He amassed a total of 17 total tackles. Also, he also sacked the quarterback once.

While Atlanta Falcons linebacker Jerrell Freeman also recorded 17 tackles, Alexander was able to show him up. The Buccaneers LB amassed 15 solo tackles, which compared to Freeman’s nine solo tackles, makes the feat Alexander accomplished much more significant.

When it comes to Tampa Bay records, Alexander is tied for sixth among all franchise defenders with his 17 tackles in one game. But judging by his dominant display on Sunday, it’s certainly not impossible he breaks the Buccaneers record of 20. It’s also important to remember that Alexander is only a 22-year-old, so who knows what records might fall during his career.

You’ve got to place Kwon Alexander near the top of the linebacker rankings in the NFL. While he’s still got some work to do to catch the likes of Luke Kuechly, Chandler Jones, or even teammate, LaVonte David, Alexander’s age and ability make him someone to watch out for this season and beyond.
