A charming and historical city located in western Ukraine, has long been a cultural mecca of the former Soviet republic.
Founded in 1240, Lviv has served as a social and cultural hub of the historical region of Galicia, and has endured Soviet and German occupations during World War II in being home to such prestigious cultural attractions such as the Lviv Theatre of Opera and Ballet.
Long known for it’s breathtaking architecture and monuments, Lviv’s hottest new export may be New York-based fashion model and actress, Tania Kop.
Kop, a 5’9 fair-skinned brunette beauty, has modeled in print catalogues for well-known brands such as IKEA, Oriflame, Avon and Zarina in her native Ukraine and in neighboring Russia. In addition to being a fashion and beauty model who has walked the runways of New York Fashion Week and the Trunk Show, Kop has also made a name for herself in the upcoming Usher Morgan-directed action crime thriller, Pickings that will be coming out this June.
Fluent in English, German, Russian and Ukrainian, Kop’s star is on the rise with a chance for it to only shine brighter. Below is my Q and A with Ms. Kop as we talk about drumming, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and a little Walt Disney.
Name: Tania Kop
Birthplace: Lviv, Ukraine
Robert D. Cobb: What kind of model do you consider yourself? (Instagram, pin-up/glamour, fashion)
Tania Kop: “That’s a very good question. I can do all kind of modeling, it all depends on my mood. I am more as they call it a “beauty queen” more than just a model.
I have done so many beauty competitions in Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, New York, Italy, Poland.
I even became a winner of 3 of them. But I have never considered myself as a model. It just happened when I moved to NY. I started feel more comfortable in front of camera and it just went with the flow. I like to shoot beauty and portraits. As I am an actress, I like to show strong emotions and this is what makes me happy. Beauty and portraits define myself. Also, I like to do swimsuits and lingerie. I feel comfortable with my body and I enjoy it.”
Robert D. Cobb: What brands have you modeled for? Which one do you enjoy modeling for the most?
Tania Kop: “I mostly modeled in Ukraine and Russia, so my brands are following are Avon, Zarina, Clarins and Oriflame. Basically beauty brands.”
Robert D. Cobb: Where has been your favorite place to shoot?
Tania Kop: “Any place that my soul feels comfortable. But I enjoy shooting on the streets of New York City. This city has a magic and I like to be a part of that magic.”
Robert D. Cobb: What is the most exciting aspect of modeling?
Tania Kop: “Feelings and emotions that you can show through camera and viewers can feel it. It is all about bringing a message to the audience so they live that moment with you.”
Robert D. Cobb: What fashion and style tips and trends do you have for looking good when the temperature drops?
Tania Kop: “I love cold weather and enjoy it as I am from a cold country. I love long coats and fur with huge scarfs. Also I do wear long gloves different colors,it is really fun to change them with coats.
I am not a big fan of hats because I do have long hair and it is always a problem for me to keep my hair flawless all the time. So I use oil for hair and it is not that fluffy and messy. And of course, last but not least, red lipstick. Winter time is always grey and moody so I like to brighten it up and use red lipstick.”
Robert D. Cobb: Within the industry, who is your inspiration?
Tania Kop: “Marilyn Monroe. She was not only pretty from outside, but also from the inside and talented. Charm that is the most important thing that capture people’s eyes.
Nobody can have it. But she had it.
And of course as Audrey Hepburn said, ”happy girls are the prettiest ”. Marilyn was always happy nevertheless hardships that she had. Also I am an inspiration for myself. The more I for hard and improve myself the more inspiration and motivation it give some to move forward.”
Robert D. Cobb: What is your secret to staying in shape?
Tania Kop: “Water, sleep no sugar and swimming. I love water and swim, it is my addiction.
I feel relaxed, calm and satisfied when i do it plus it is very good for your body to stay in shape. And I am a big sleeper. I can’t not survive if i don’t have my beauty sleep. Also water helps me to stay hydrated and makes my skin bright and nice.”
Robert D. Cobb: Outside of modeling, what are your hobbies?
Tania Kop: “Drums!!! I had a rock band for 5 years back in Ukraine and I was pretty good drummer. We won a few competitions back in the day. Also acting, my occupation is acting so it is a hobby and my profession at the same time. I am happy that I can do what i like. I also dance and do interior design. Well everything connected to art is interesting to me.”
Robert D. Cobb: Sports question: Who are your favorite teams and clubs.
Tania Kop: “Hmmm…I am so bad with sports LOL! I love figure skating, that’s for sure. But about other sport teams and clubs, I am wrong person to ask.”
Robert D. Cobb: What are your favorite cities to travel to?
Tania Kop: “Lviv-my hometown city and the best place on Earth. It is next to Poland and Germany. Very beautiful. In my list things to do are to visit cities in Dubai, Sweden, Los Angeles. Yes, that’s funny but I am an actress and i have never been there.”
Robert D. Cobb: What advice would you give to women aspiring to get into modeling?
Tania Kop: “Confidence, confidence and confidence. If you don’t accept your body and yourself the way you are, you will feel not complete. If you are confident in your own skin, people feel it and accept you the way you are with big smiles in their souls.
Also keep working hard and never give up. Like W.Disney said, ”If you dream it, you can do it”. Dreams comes true. I am a victim of that quote.”
