- Jonathan Lucroy, C
Lucroy, another 2016 acquisition, provided veteran leadership at a key position. This was something that the Rangers had been lacking in for some time. Not only was Lucroy a sound defensive player in 2016, he brought his “A” game to the plate as well. Lucroy had a .292 average last season, to accompany his .355 on-base percentage. He showed a bit of power as well, slamming 24 home runs in his 142 games. Fans should have confidence that Lucroy can move runners around. If he comes to the plate in what could be a bases-loaded scenario, Lucroy can be counted on to make something happen.
- Rougned Odor, 2B
Odor and his shortstop counterpart, Elvis Andrus, had a lot of chemistry last season. Their ability to read each other’s minds led to a lot of double plays in 2016. Odor also cemented himself in Texas Rangers history, after punching Toronto’s Jose Bautista in the face. Odor also made a name for himself on the basepaths, and at the plate. His 33 homers and 164 hits, in 150 games, was impressive. His .271 average was consistent with expectations, and his .296 OBP was a little lower than the club would have hoped for. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t a reliable contributor.
- Elvis Andrus, SS
Elvis Andrus had some jaw-dropping defensive plays last season. Like mentioned above, his chemistry with Odor led to some terrific double plays. Andrus wasn’t just a star infielder. He was a star hitter as well. He had a .302 batting average and a .362 OBP in 2016. With 153 hits in 147 games, Andrus solidified himself as a reliable batter. He fits well at number six for the Texas Rangers, as potential trouble for a pitcher in the middle of the order.
I would move Odor to left and play Profar at second which improves our defense
Pete,
Thank you so much for reading this article! I definitely could see Profar at 2B. I just don’t think Banister would consider it. Who knows!
