Sources are indicating that the Texas Rangers will sign free agent first baseman/designated hitter Mike Napoli. The current reports are stating that the deal will be for one year, while dollars have not been specified yet. The deal is believed to be under 10 million dollars.

It appeared that the conversation between the two parties were at an impasse, as the Rangers were only willing to make the 35-year-old a one-year deal.On the other hand, Napoli was seeking a contract for two or three years. The two reached an agreement, and one that is beneficial for both parties.

Mike Napoli returns to Texas, after sitting in free agency for some time. The Cleveland Indians chose to go another route this Winter, and not bring Napoli back to the team that made the 2016 World Series. For Texas, they are getting a solid option for the first base or the designated hitter role. This is a clear improvement to a Rangers lineup that clearly has some room for improvement.

Last season, Napoli played in 150 games. He carried a .239/.335/.465 slash line, with 34 home runs.
