With both Logan Woodside and Cody Thompson going into their final years at Toledo, the two will form one of the most deadly pairs in college football for one last season.
Starting off with Thompson, the Senior WR had one of the best seasons of any player in the MAC in 2016. Hauling in 64 passes for 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns, Thompson was damn near a sure thing every game.

Now, as he’s one of the elder statesmen on the Rockets roster, there is some added responsibility to pave the way for the young guys on the squad, and also become a team leader. I asked Thompson at MAC Media Day about his role as a Senior/leader for the team this upcoming season.
“I just like to take that leadership role. I think the biggest thing being a leader is when you step on the field, trying to make everyone around you better, and getting ready for that situation.”
Thompson would go on to add the following,
“I’m kind of excited about it, being a Senior, having that leadership role.”
Let’s shift our focus to Woodside. The quarterback was one of the best signal callers in all of the Nation in 2016. Passing for 4,129 yards and 45 touchdowns, put him with some elite company.
When speaking to Thompson at MAC Media Day, I asked him what it’s like to have a QB like Woodside on your team.
“I don’t even know if I can pick one word to describe him.” It’s a great feeling to know you have somebody back there that has put in the work, knows the offense, and just knows the game extremely well. He’s going to get us in the right situation to have success on every down and distance. Any night, Saturday, Wednesday, whatever night they have us playing on, just know he’s always going to have the right play and right mindset going into every game.”

Toledo lost its star running back Kareem Hunt and wide receiver Corey Jones from last season. Woodside will now rely heavily on Thompson. They are the bread and butter of one of the best offenses in the nation. And with them playing at full speed, it’s likely Toledo can exceed the 517.8 yards of total offense per game, which the team achieved last season.
It goes without saying that another 4,000-yard season for Woodside is within reach. As Thompson matures and evolves into one of the best WR in the country, it’s possible he eclipses the 1,350-yard mark. With it being their final year together, expect 2017 to be a huge one for Logan Woodside and Cody Thompson. After this year, the two might be playing against each other on Sunday.
