On September 1 Major League Baseball rosters expanded to 40 and the Oakland Athletics called up top outfield prospect Michael Choice. While he didn’t get a chance to make his debut yesterday against the Tampa Bay Rays, the outfielder is in the lineup for manager Bob Melvin as the designated hitter.

In 132 games for the Sacramento River Cats Choice tied for second in the Pacific Coast League with 89 rbi, fourth in hits (154), fifth in walks (69) and 10th in OBP (.390). He will hit ninth today in game one of a three game series against the Texas Rangers who will send out left-handed starting pitcher Dererk Holland (9-6, 3.00 era).

Surprisingly Chris Young is also in the lineup with Brandon Moss getting a day off.

The A’s have gotten hot at the right time going 6-1 in their last seven and defeating the likes of Justin Verlander, Anibal Sanchez and David Price and are just one game behind the Rangers for the division lead with 26 games remaining. Oakland also has one more trip to Arlington this season from September 13-15.

Also, there was good news regarding right fielder Josh Reddick who reportedly felt no pain in his sprained right wrist that forced him to go on the disabled list on August 26th. In 97 games this season he’s hit .213 with 10 home runs and 46 rbi.
