It’s a sad day for Prince fans in Minnesota and across the globe as today marks the 2-year anniversary of the devastating loss of beloved musical genius, Prince Rogers Nelson. This anniversary comes just two days after the decision was announced by Carver County officials that they are closing their 2-year investigation, and there would be no criminal charges filed in Prince’s death.

On April 21, 2017 at 9:43 am, Prince Rogers Nelson, 57, was found unresponsive in an elevator in his home at Paisley Park Studios, located in Chanhassen, MN. He was pronounced dead at 10:07 am, 19 minutes after paramedics arrived on the scene. On June 2, 2017, Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Anoka County, stated in a press release that Prince had died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl.

Reasoning Behind the Decision: During a press conference held on Thursday, April 19, in Carver County, MN, Carver County Attorney, Mark Metz, stated, “To actively charge a crime requires probable cause and a reasonable likelihood of conviction. The bottom line is that we simply do not have sufficient evidence to charge anyone with a crime related to Prince’s death.” Metz also said, “He thought he was taking Vicodin and not fentanyl.”

Prince Tribute: Paisley Park will be hosting Celebration 2018, which will be taking place April 19-22. This event will include live music, guest speakers, and presentations highlighting Prince’s life and career. Musical guests will include Sheila E and fDeluxe, also known as The Family.

The Celebration 2018 ticket also included last night’s PRINCE: Live On the Big Screen concert event at Target Center in Minneapolis. This tribute featured newly remastered and never-before-seen concert footage of Prince, along with special performances by several of Prince’s musicians.

Early reviews of the event are rolling in and saying Prince would not approve. Although there may have been lot of love for him at Target Center last night, critics are saying this Prince tribute didn’t have enough Prince.

Prince and his music made an everlasting imprint in the music industry and beyond. He will be forever loved and missed by his fans. Rest in purple, beautiful one.
