Last night was a historical night at Madison Square Garden in New York City. It wasn’t a New York Rangers win or a New York Knicks win. It was, however, the first time that the UFC held an event at the World’s Most Famous Arena. The highly anticipated UFC 205 was last night in front of a packed Garden and two historical things occurred.
Earlier on in the night, former Women’s Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate loss in a very fast manner. However, the part that makes that historical was what she said to Joe Rogan after her match. She basically told Rogan and the millions of people both there and that were watching it on pay-per-view that she is retiring. This came as a huge surprise to many UFC fans as no one was expecting this to happen. What boggles my mind is why she is walking away from the octagon. She was only in the UFC from 2007 until last night. I would also like to note that once the news broke that she was retiring, people were thinking that she is WWE bound. While anything is possible, I don’t personally see that happening. I don’t see it happening because unlike other UFC fighters like Ronda Rousey, Conor McGregor, Paige VanZant just to name some who WWE could market, I don’t see that with Tate. Unless you have watch Tate’s matches over the years, then you really don’t know who she is.

Although there have been rumors floating around that WWE wants to bring in someone from the UFC for WrestleMania 33, I would be very surprised but not shocked if it’s Tate. It will be interesting to see where Miesha Tate goes after her nine-year run in UFC. While Tate’s stunning announcement was big, there was something else that happened that some would consider as being a bit bigger.
For the last several weeks, UFC 205 was being headlined by a fight between Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez for the middleweight title. The historical part of this match was with Conor McGregor winning, he now becomes the 1st fighter in the history of UFC to hold two different belts from two different classes. It will be interesting to see how long before UFC President Dana White makes McGregor forfeit one of the belts.
Overall, it was a historical night and I’m expecting there to be more UFC events held in New York in the foreseeable future. We saw history made with Conor McGregor and we were witnesses to the end of Miesha Tate’s UFC career.
