The gritty Hindi criminal movie *Bhagwat Chapter One: Raakshas*, which debuted on ZEE5 on October 17, 2025. This 127-minute movie will surely amaze you. This movie has been directed by Akshay Shere, stars Jitendra Kumar as the surprisingly endearing Sameer, and Arshad Warsi as the tough DSP Vishwas Bhagwat.  Inspired by the real-life nightmare of serial killer Cyanide Mohan, it is more than simply a film. Also, it is the first installment of what promises to be a saga of small-town horrors.

Let’s Find Out the Plot of ‘Bhagwat Chapter One: Raakshas’!

If you are looking for a thriller movie, you shouldn’t miss ‘Bhagwat Chapter One on ZEE5. The story kicks off in Robertsganj. A girl named Poonam Mishra disappears, leaving her family shattered. Local cops shrug it off as elopement—dark-skinned girl, late-night calls, what’s new? But enter Bhagwat, fresh from a transfer after one too many “incidents.” This guy’s got demons: anger issues, a haunted past (his sister vanished young), and zero patience for sloppy work. He dives in, checks call logs, and boom—Poonam’s not alone. Nineteen girls missing? A prostitution racket? Or something darker?

Bhagwat Chapter One: Raakshas is Inspired by an Actual Serial Killer!

The film is inspired by Mohan Kumar, frequently referred to as Cyanide Mohan, a schoolteacher from Karnataka who killed at least 20 women. Do you want to understand his method? Make marriage promises, drug them with pills that contain cyanide (posing as contraceptives), steal their jewels, and dispose of the bodies.  He maintained a journal.  While incarcerated, he boasted.

The main terror of Bhagwat Chapter One—a killer who resembles your neighbor—remains, despite the setting being moved to Uttar Pradesh and the addition of communal conflict and police politics.

Bhagwat Chapter One: Raakshas’s Stars Steal the Show!

You should probably know Arshad Warsi. His Forgettable Circuit role in Munnabhai MBBS.  Bhagwat’s weary eyes, explosive temper, quiet vows to Poonam’s dad. He anchors the chaos like a boss. Panchayat’s Jeetu Bhaiya as a cold-blooded wolf in sheep’s clothing? Mind blown. His shift from sweet-talker to psychopath is Oscar-level creepy—quiet menace that lingers. Ayesha shines as wide-eyed Meera; Devas Dikshit nails the loyal sidekick SI Mahto; Tara Alisha Berry adds edge as Summi. Supporting gems like Rashmi Rajput (Janhavi) and Praveen Arora (DIG) flesh out the gritty world.

Script of Bhagwat Chapter One:

Shere, making his feature splash, pens a sharp script with Bhavini Bheda (story/screenplay) and Sumit Saxena (dialogues). Backed by heavyweights—producers Jyoti Deshpande, Pammi & Harman Baweja, Kanishk Gangwal, Vipin Agnihotri—it’s a Jio Studios, Baweja Studios, Dog ‘n’ Bone Pictures collabo. Shot in real UP locales, the dusty lanes and suffocating heat feel alive. Mangesh Dhakde and Raghu-Arjun’s score? Subtle dread, though forgettable. Cinematography nails the gloom—no glossy Bollywood gloss here.

Writing, and Direction

Akshay Shere co-writes the dialogues with Sumit Saxena and the story with Bhavini Bheda. The first hour is entirely procedural, with dead ends, raids, and interrogations. The another half explodes into court drama and ethical chaos.

The film, which changed into shot on location in Banaras and Uttar Pradesh, exudes realism. No synthetic rain, no Mumbai studios. Mangesh Dhakde and Raghu-Arjun’s background score eats away at you; there’s less music and more fear.

Buzz and Gripes

Viewers devoured it—IMDb 7.0 from 100K+ votes—but critics nitpick. “Copy of *Dahaad*!” screams many (Vijay Varma’s killer mirrors Sameer). Shubhra Gupta (Indian Express): “Rip-off?” Ronak Kotecha:  “Right intentions, half conviction.” Rahul Desai (THR India) loves the socio-political bite. Reddit rants: “Terrific acting, same plot.” Jitendra’s villain arc has fans reeling.

Final Words!

Here, we come to the end of this instructive blog on Bhagwat Chapter One Raakshas. The conclusion seems to be a sneak peek at Chapter Two. There will be some unexpected turns. However, Jitendra Kumar and Arshad Warsi provide their best performances to date, and the picture sticks because it doesn’t glorify evil.

This isn’t a movie for the weekend. It serves as a mirror to small-town India, where the devil cites scripture, girls go missing, and police officers are faulty. Watch it by yourself.
