For this week’s edition of WCW is a woman who has carried the Law and Order SVU since it began.
The woman I am talking about is Mariska Hargitay, who plays Olivia Benson on the hit NBC show Law and Order SVU. She was born on January 23, 1964 to former bodybuilder and actor Mickey Hargitay and actress Jayne Mansfield. She would first make her film debut in 1985 with the horror-comedy film Ghoulies and her television debut in 1986 with the show Downtown. Over her career that has lasted over 30 years, she has made guest appearances on such shows as Baywatch, Seinfeld, Ellen, ER for 13 episodes, Law and Order, Law and Order: Trial by Jury, Chicago PD, and Chicago Fire.
However, where she got her fame from was playing Olivia Benson on Law and Order SVU since it came on NBC back in 1999. It is another installment of the hit series Law and Order that was started by Dick Wolf. They say how now there was a significant female presence in lead roles on TV shows when she started that wasn’t the case. Back in the late 90’s, the TV world was a more male-orientated field. So I guess you can say she is also a pioneer for woman having lead roles on TV shows.
She has done a lot of charitable things outside of the SVU world, and it has helped her greatly. It is also interested to note that she doesn’t look over fifty, if you look at her she looks like she’s mid 40’s. I would also figure it’s safe to say she is one of the more stunning woman to be over the age of 50, but I feel it’s a lot to do with who were parents were. But she is fresh of beauty to look at every Wednesday night when her show Law and Order does come on the air.
