Novak Djokovic is on the downside of his illustrious career. After winning 12 majors, the Serbian tennis star has been playing some rough tennis as of late. Could his dominance of the men’s tennis field be in jeopardy?

Normally one significant loss isn’t going to detail your career. However, after Djokovic’s recent defeat at the 2017 French Open to Dominic Thiem in straight sets, you wonder how he will recover.

Last year, Djokovic won the French Open
It’s been a roller coaster ride ever since.

In 2016 he exited in the 3rd round of Wimbledon, but then bounced back and made the Finals of the U.S. Open.

2017 saw Djokovic fall in the 2nd round of the Australian Open. Many expected a big run for Djokovic at the French, but that wasn’t the case.

The French Open has been Djokovic’s worst major. That’s in large part because of the dominance of Rafael Nadal at the event over the years. Regardless, it’s still a major upset to see him lose so early and so convincingly.

With the career resurgence of Nadal and Roger Federer, and the play of Andy Murray, it appears Djokovic has been the odd man out of men’s tennis big four. Although, he’s still one of the best in the world. But you’ve got to wonder when this streak of bad play will end.

It’s going to take some time for the French Open loss to settle. With Wimbledon right around the corner, Djokovic can’t dwell on the defeat for too long.

Djokovic did hint that he might take some time off from tennis after the French Open defeat. That might be the best option for him at this point. He needs to recharge and focus on what made him the world’s top tennis star.

The clock is ticking on Novak Djokovic. He’s not getting any younger, and we’d all love to see one last big run before he rides off into the sunset.
