From the hotel attack in Mali Hotel terror attack that killed three people while injuring 20 to the Planned Parenthood attack that killed three in Colorado Springs Colorado.
From the extreme Paris, Lebanon and Nigeria terrorist attacks in recent weeks to something as simple as Black Friday shoppers fighting each other physically for an item of interest, the violence of our country continues to escalate. Most of the time with no real legitimate reasons. So when will this senseless violence end?
And why is it senseless, lets get into that logic as well.
The first major difference is the examples of the terrorists attacks in Mali, Paris, etc… The group ISIS is a “radical form” of Islamic beliefs. ISIS frowns on democracy and freedom of choice and over the course of the last several years, democracy has continue to spread into the Middle East, just this process once did for the U.S.S.R. in the 80’s and 90’s.
Just as the it was met with some resistance then, democracy is meeting that similar resistance but with more force and fear. Religion is the primary reason for most, if no, all these terror attacks calling democracy the work of the devil. ISIS claims to be the “holy warriors” of their people and will do whatever it takes, hence ruling through fear and terror.
What most may not be aware of is one of the primary principles of the Koran (Qur’an) is “Life through peace,” something we as a people are always working towards, regardless of the color of our skin, our gender or anything else that sets us apart from another. So are the terrorist actions in Paris, Lebanon, Nigeria and Mali just to name a few senseless?
According to one of the primary principles of the Koran (Qur’an) that answer is yes.
In the United States, we ourselves are continuing to deal with senseless violence of our own. As previously mentioned, just within the last 48 hours there was the attack on Planned Parenthood that killed three people. In Chicago, a Black teenager was gunned down by police officers (3 officers on site admitted the one who shot the teen was out of line) and the most recent, the Black Friday rumble in the shopping mall jungle.
In the case of the Planned Parenthood attack, one official has a theory as to the reason for the attack.
“We don’t yet know the full circumstances and motives behind this criminal action, and we don’t yet know if Planned Parenthood was in fact the target of this attack,” Vicki Cowart, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, said in a written statement. “We share the concerns of many Americans that extremists are creating a poisonous environment that feeds domestic terrorism in this country. We will never back away from providing care in a safe, supportive environment that millions of people rely on and trust.”
Once again, religion comes into the equation as to justify the violence performed on a particular target. Granted there is a section of the Christian Bible that does disapprove of abortions, which is one of Planned Parenthood’s reasons for operation. However there is two reasons this logic is wrong. First and foremost, Planned Parenthood does much more than that.
In recent studies, it has been documented that only 3 percent of Planned Parenthood is dedicated to abortions. 42 percent of the company’s mission is dedicated to sexually-transmitted disease control, education and treatment.
34 percent is dedicated to conception education and prevention. The leftover 21 percent of their resources are dedicated to Cancer testing and prevention and other women health services.
That is just one reason but lets connect reason two to the Christian Bible once more. There are many examples and lessons within the Bible but the one primary principle taught is the one that has been lost the most. “Treat each other as you would treat God.”
That right there is the primary overall lesson and yet we as a people are punching, kicking and biting each other just to get our hands on the latest electronic devices or those new pair of high fashion shoes or fancy hand bag. So are the United States actions acts of senseless violence. That answer is also a yes.
Using religion to justify acts of violence and/or terrorism is not just wrong, but it is a direct violation of the primary principle that those books were based on.
That is why violent individuals or terrorist groups like ISIS use religion in their cause, to bestow fear and question us individuals and our faith. It is a typical military strategy, make your opponent live in fear and they will sway from their stance.
In the end however, these are just random acts from those who fear the change that is going on in the world of today. These violent actions are being carried out by individuals who fear being educated and having their eyes opened to the new possibilities ahead. The senseless violence ends when the closed-minded decide that its time to try something new.
