Choosing a job and a career is no easy thing to do, after all, this is a place and a job where you are going to be spending large amounts of time, so you will want to ensure that it is right for you as well as being something that you enjoy.

Humour is one aspect people don’t take into account when choosing their job, but it definitely should be a high priority for you.

After all, is always good to laugh and enjoy what you do aside from the role itself. With that in mind, here are some of the reasons why humour is important in your career choice.

It humanises you and your colleagues

One thing that it can do is humanise you and your colleagues. Humour seems to always break the ice, so this is perfect for when you are just starting out in a new workplace or even things like when joining different rankings. This is especially noticeable when it comes to careers such as working in the military.

From different names such as pogs and grunts to assumptions like why do marines eat crayons? Which actually has nothing to do with eating crayons and more to do with age believe it or not. The thing is, humour makes it easier to feel normal rather than out of your comfort zone.

People will enjoy working with you

The next thing to be aware of is that humour can make you an interesting and noun person to work with. People will enjoy working with you if they feel like there are going to have a good time in the process. Humour can make the time pass quickly so if you are working on something particularly tiring and hard, then humour can help to ease the strain of it.

It’s a proven stress buster

Humour can also be a proven stress buster. There is no denying that some careers can often be stressful anyway, with important and difficult decisions to make. But with that means that some people can take on that stress whereas humour can be a great reliever of its own and allow you to come back down to earth rather than dwell on a situation.

It builds trust

Trust is important in the workplace, and because of that, humour can be a great foundation in order to build it. People are more likely to warm to a co-worker and colleague who has made them left and help to break the ice. The trust element stems from that and it can be a great basis to from a great working relationship in and outside of the workplace.

It boosts workplace morale

Finally, it can boost workplace morale as you start to see people smiling and being happy in their environment. A happy worker and employee means they are far more likely to be productive when it comes to their workload, and less likely to feel stressed and anxious.

Let’s hope this has you more aware of how humour can help in your career.
