2017 NFL Draft, April 27-29
Well, round 1 of the 2017 NFL Draft is in the books and it was a crazy night. From trades that we didn’t expect happening to live F-bombs on tv. I will be doing a Pick by Pick recap of who was the pick, who should have been the pick, what I thought their grade was and what place they finished for the night.
- Cleveland Browns– The Pick-Myles Garrett. The Grade A+. Who should have been the pick? No One as this was the correct pick and the Browns nailed it.
- Chicago Bears (trade with San Francisco 49ers)- The Pick- Mitchell Trubisky. The Grade- C. Who should have been the pick? It wasn’t so much the pick as what they gave up to get one spot up. Only time will tell
- San Francisco 49ers (trade with the Chicago Bears)- The Pick- Solomon Thomas. The Grade- A. Who should have been the pick? This was a great pick it was who they wanted all along and they moved down and still got him
- Jacksonville Jaguars– The Pick- Leonard Fournette. The Grade A. Who should have been the pick? This was the player the Jaguars needed it will help ease Blake Bortles and will give him another weapon on offense.
- Tennessee Titans– The Pick- Corey Davis. The Grade B-. Who should have been the pick? This is the first pick I disagreed with if you were going to go WR Mike Williams should have been the pick at 5. A Little bit of a reach for them.
- New York Jets– The Pick- Jamal Adams. The Grade A. Who should have been the pick? The Jets told Jamal Adams you are wasting your time visiting any team below pick 6 because he isn’t falling there. The Jets were sure happy he was there for them at 6.
- Los Angeles Chargers– The Pick- Mike Williams. The Grade- C+. Who should have been the pick? Malik Hooker should have been the pick in my opinion because he would have replaced Eric Weddle and now you have 800 WRs on the roster.
- Carolina Panthers– The Pick- Christian McCaffery. The Grade B. Who should have been the pick? No one else this is who everyone thought they were going to take and they did.
- Cincinnati Bengals– The Pick- John Ross. The Grade D. Who should have been the pick? There were numerous options for other people here. However, they went for the speed which I don’t agree with. Hassan Reddick would have been the best bet if not Barnett or even Allen
- Kansas City Chiefs(trade with the Buffalo Bills)- The pick- Patrick Mahomes. The Grade B. Who should have been the pick? I don’t have an issue with the pick I believe it was a good pick for them as he is the best upside QB in the draft. What an arm this kid has.
- New Orleans Saints– The Pick- Marshon Lattimore. The Grade B+. Who should have been the pick? No one really because he was a top 10 pick who fell into their lap at 11 and it was a good pick.
- Houston Texans( trade with Cleveland Browns)- The Pick- Deshawn Watson. The Grade A-. Who should have been the pick? This was a good pick they got the most NFL ready QB and they got him pretty inexpensive.
- Arizona Cardinals– The Pick- Hassan Riddick. The Grade B. Who should have been the pick? Could have gone with Foster from Alabama or Allen both would have been a better value.
- Philadelphia Eagles– The Pick- Derek Barnett. The Grade F. Who should have been the pick? The Eagles needed an LB or CB here because of all the playmakers in the division. They then go with a DE but they don’t even take the top DE on the board.
- Indianapolis Colts– The Pick- Malik Hooker. The Grade A. Who should have been the pick? No one this was the best player available and a position of need for the colts. Great value pick at 15 they got a top 10 talent at 15.
- Baltimore Ravens– The Pick- Marlon Humphrey. The Grade C+. Who should have been the pick? With Lattimore off the board, the next best CB was Conely. But with his, off the field troubles the Ravens elected to go with Humphreys not a bad pick just not a blown away can’t believe it pick
- Washington Redskins– The Pick- Johnathan Allen. The Grade A. Who should have been the pick? No one this was the best value as this guy was talked about going top 5 in the draft and he was there at 17 great value great pick.
- Tennesee Titans– The Pick- Adoree Jackson. The Grade B+. Who should have been the pick? This was a pick to fill a need and it really doesn’t need to have anyone else there to make the pick
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers– The Pick- OJ Howard. The Grade A-. Who should have been the pick? Dalvin Cook with the troubles they are having with Doug Martin would have been a good draft pick. I don’t hate the pick just could have went a different way.
- Denver Broncos– The Pick- Garrett Bolles. The Grade B-. Who should have been the pick? This was the best player and I think everyone knew this was going to be the pick for Denver.
- Detroit Lions– The Pick- Jarrad Davis. The Grade B-. Who should have been the pick? Foster from Alabama was still on the board so this was yet another team that passed on Foster as he continued his Aaron Rogers type plummet.
- Miami Dolphins– The Pick- Charles Harris. The Grade- B+. Who should have been the pick? There was no one else out there for the Dolphins to pick as this was a concern they could have went Foster but his off the field problems might be why they stayed away.
- New York Giants– The Pick- Evan Engram. The Grade A-. Who should have been the pick? It was between him and David Njoku so either way, the Giants were going TE. Nonetheless, this kid has talent as well.
- Oakland Raiders– The Pick- Gareon Conley. The Grade A or F? Who should have been the pick? This was a typical boom or bust draft pick. Earlier in the week Conley had taken a lie detector test and has passed it. Therefore Oakland obviously felt it was worth the risk of making the pick.
- Cleveland Browns (Trade from Houston Texans) The Pick- Jabril Peppers. The Grade A-. Who should have been the pick? This was the best player for them to take an impact defensive player who can also play offense. Hue Jackson has already said he will try to find a place for Peppers in the offense.
- Atlanta Falcons (Trade from Seattle Seahawks) The Pick- Takkarist McKinnley. The Grade B-. Who should have been the pick? This is who they wanted and I believe they were worried Dallas was going to take him. So, therefore, trading up was the option.
- Buffalo Bills (Trade from Houston Texans) The Pick- Tre’Davious White. The Grade B-. Who should have been the pick? It was a need pick as they lost Gilmore this offseason and he was on their radar. After trading out of the top 10 this was the best pick for them.
- Dallas Cowboys– The Pick- Taco Charlton. The Grade A-. Who should have been the pick? Had Atlanta not jumped up and got McKinnley that’s who the pick would have and should have been. But they did and Dallas got Taco.
- Cleveland Browns (Trade from Green Bay Packers)- The Pick- David Njoku. The Grade B+. Who should have been the pick? This is good draft pick. The Browns got a great pass catcher and filled a need.
- Pittsburgh Steelers– The Pick- TJ Watt. The Grade A-. Who should have been the pick? No one this was the perfect place for him and I think Pitt got one of the better late round picks with Watt.
- San Francisco 49ers (Trade through Seattle through Atlanta)- The pick- Reuben Foster. The Grade- C+. I think he would have been there in 3 picks when they picked in Round 2 but the 49ers traded up to get him to prevent him from going elsewhere.
- New Orleans Saints (Trade with New England)- The pick- Ryan Ramczyk. The Grade- B+. Who should have been the pick? This was the right move as it shores up their offensive line which now has AP running behind it and Mark Ingram.
