Despite the Quarterbacks, Running Backs and Wide Receivers getting the headlines, football games on win between the offensive and defensive lines. In the past, most thought a good offensive line just equaled a stud Left Tackle and a Center, but now you also need a good Right Tackle and solid Guards to truly fight off some of the ferocious defensive lines today’s game. Offensive linemen are critical for making an offense look good. Offensive line is one of the 1st things bad teams must address.
This year’s group of offensive linemen may not the greatest bunch, but if you look at last year’s group pre-draft, you may have said the same thing. Most years, you will see one or two no-brainers go inside the top five of the draft. However, this year, we may get one to go in the top ten. In my opinion, four guys will get selected in round one: OT Jonah Williams of Alabama, T Greg Little of Mississippi, T Jawaan Taylor of Florida, and T/G Cody Ford of Oklahoma.
Some others that should go in round two or three include: C Garrett Bradbury of NC St, C Erik McCoy of Texas A&M, C Elgton Jenkins of Mississippi St, T Andre Dilliard of Washington St, T/C Dalton Risner of TCU, G Chris Lindstrom of Boston College. Whether it’s power blocking or zone blocking scheme, all linemen do not fit every system the same. A lot depends on who fits your system, their mentality, and how they are developed through coaching. Definitely some moldable pieces in this group.
