Life can get boring when all you do is go to work, perform chores around the house, and take care of your children. Sometimes people want to feel a thrill.

This can be from going on a new roller coaster or pursuing a career as a surfer to working on safaris with wild animals. You have to decide for yourself what makes you feel excited.

The drawback to taking risks and having fun is how dangerous it can be. You can get injured or even killed if you put yourself in positions like the ones we mentioned above. There’s got to be a way to protect yourself and still get daring, though, right?

We’ll talk about some of the ways to give yourself some protection, from buying high-risk life insurance to wearing seatbelts.

#1 – Wear Protective Gear/Seatbelts/Helmets

Whether you are a thrill seeker or a boring person, driving motor vehicles of any kind can be very dangerous. Every time you leave the house to go to work, pick up your children from school, or especially when you go on a road trip, there is a chance you are putting yourself at risk of serious injury or death.

This can be mitigated somewhat by taking as many preventive measures as possible. When you’re in a car, make sure you wear your seatbelt and have the airbags operable. These are legally required, but you should want to do this anyway.

If you are a daring motorist and ride a motorcycle, you need to wear helmets and protective jackets. This can be difficult when you’re trying to enjoy the summer sun on your bike and are overheated with extra layers, but you’ll be sorry if you get into an accident without wearing these items.

If you want to go over the speed limit while driving these vehicles or riding these motorcycles, make sure you go to a racetrack where you are allowed to do so. Speed limits are there to protect you and others, not enable risky driving. It’s fun to go fast, but there are places to do that off the main roads.

#2 – Become an Expert on Job Risks

Some people want to do untraditional jobs. Being in an office building all day can get stuffy and boring. Working with animals in a zoo can be fun and exciting, and you get to be around nature and spend your life outside. Maybe you like working with your hands and building things, leading to a career in construction.

The downsides to these types of careers are the risks you put yourself in while performing them. Being around animals all the time, especially wild ones in the zoo, can lead to catastrophic consequences. One wrong move on top of an unfinished building can result in broken limbs.

You need to find a way to lessen the risks of these jobs by performing them with expert knowledge. Learning the difference between handling a bear and a gorilla is going to go a long way in protecting you from the animals. You have to know what each species is comfortable with or they will attack even in a controlled setting.

Knowing about risky hazards like potholes and wet spots, among other things, while building or repaving a road as a construction worker will help you avoid their dangerous risks. Knowing what causes these hazards is also good knowledge.

Being an expert on your dangerous jobs doesn’t make it completely safe, it just helps give you more peace of mind.

#3 – Don’t Make Rash Social Decisions

There are ways to protect yourself from social thrill-seeking, too. Dating certain people and going out to a bar with friends are risky if you don’t understand the ways you can get hurt. Try to meet new people in a place that is familiar to you, and potentially with longtime friends at your side for support.

If you use online dating apps, you want to verify the existence of the person you’re talking to behind the screen. Meet in a wide open space during the day. Never meet someone you talked to online alone for the first time. This can be difficult when you’re trying to put yourself out there and meet new people, but you’ll be glad you were cautious.

There are other social events that can lead to thrill-seeking and risky behavior, too. Going to a big birthday party or a celebration often leads to lots of drug and alcohol abuse, especially among young people. It can be fun to have one or two drinks with a friend, but it’s when you drink in excess and drive that it becomes a massive problem.

Think about the consequences of what you are about to do when in social situations. Always have a designated driver at a party. Have a friend who knows you well and can talk you off the cliff when you’re about to make a bad decision. It can be overwhelming when peer pressure settles in, so find positive influences.

#4 – Get Life Insurance

Consider a life insurance policy if you know you are a thrill seeker. You’re going to have a hard time getting an affordable one if your lifestyle is bad for your health, though. Some of the stuff we talked about above, like drinking or even smoking cigarettes, can lead to insurance companies walking away.

You should look into getting a high-risk policy if there’s no other choice. These are guaranteed to pay out a settlement to your family in case of a tragedy. In return, your rates are going to be a lot higher. Taking measures to live a healthier life is going to help bring these life insurance costs down.

You’re also going to have a hard time getting life insurance if you have a dangerous job. Construction and wildlife conservation are just two of the ones we’ve touched on, but anything that can lead to injury or death is bad for life insurance companies. You’ll have to get high-risk insurance in these circumstances, too.

There’s nothing wrong with doing something daring and enjoying life, but make sure you are taking responsibility for your actions. Protect yourself and your family when taking risks and you should be fine.
