The next Path Of Exile league is called Trial of the Ancestors. Among them, this PC version will start on August 18, and the console version will start on August 23.
The new league is a mechanic somewhere between Auto-battler Style Tournament and MOBA Arena, taking place off the map. We will face different tribes of Karui faction through Tournament. Here I’ll explain the new league mechanics and everything we’ve learned.
Mechanic Access – Silver Coins
Similar to Rogue’s Marker in Heist, in this mechanic we will have Silver Coins. This is a new type of POE Currency, which can be used as a medium of exchange, and we can also use it to enter the field of transactions.
Here, we’ll meet 11 NPCs in total. Each of 10 Karui tribes taking part in Tournament has a Chieftain, as well as Navali who manages our access to these Tournaments. We’ll dig into how to interact with these NPCs and some details later on.
How Does The Mechanism Work? – Battles & Tournaments
By interacting with Navali, we will register for Tournament. In each match, we have to face 10 Karui tribes, and only by winning the battle can we get the ultimate reward. Every Silver Coin allows us to take part in a battle.
In each round, we can choose which tribe we want to compete against, and this choice will be based primarily on the rewards each battle offers us. The games are the best of three, which means if we lose a game, no problem. But if we lose two games, they will disqualify us. We have to win two rounds to get the corresponding POE Items as rewards, as well as a certain Favour of the tribe.
When a Warrior dies in combat, they reappear a few seconds later at their base, Totem. Note that in Hardcore mode, they have considered this to cause obvious problems for players.
Therefore, Death won’t be permanent in the new mechanics, and your character will also respawn next to Totem shortly after death. But if we destroy Totem, these Warrior dies instantly and cannot respawn.
So, the team that destroys the opposing Totem first wins the battle. Before starting a battle, we will configure our team and place on the field a series of items that will help us once the battle begins. We can intuitively understand the composition of the enemy, to choose the best strategy to fight against them.
Each tribe has its strengths and weaknesses, and we must understand them to fit the situation. Once we hit the start button, we appear in Arena and fight alongside our Warriors. They will move according to the roles and locations we assign them.
Initially, we could only start a Tournament with 3 Warriors. But when we win the battle, we can recruit Warriors again. You can also spend special POE Orbs to get line equipment and Field Items for them.
They also mention that if you join a party, all your companions can join your Warriors in battle. Once we’ve finished the game, we’ll start a new one from scratch. This means that Warriors and their equipment and Field Items will not be preserved.
However, as each game progresses, our ranking will rise and the rewards will be better. Also, after winning this tournament, Hinekora lets us choose from 3 exclusive rewards. We’ll talk about all the exclusive drops in the mechanics later.
Exclusive Rewards For Defeating Tribes
As mentioned before, when we defeat a tribe, we will get the corresponding drops and certain Favour. Favour we get into a clan can only be used in that clan’s shop.
There are 10 types of Favour, which can be consumed separately in the shops of 10 Chieftain NPCs we mentioned earlier. These NPCs will provide us with three types of goods to choose from.

Recruiting Warriors
Every tribe has Warriors, and as we mentioned earlier, they have their own strengths and weaknesses. We have to see which ones are more suitable for the strategy we want to follow in battle. During the demo, we saw some examples:
- Tortoise: A type of Turtle that is slow but can withstand multiple effects.
- Tuatara: Another type of monster with more balanced and faster skill effects than the previous one. Also, in one version, it has a Stealth ability that allows us to attack the enemy base from the flank.
- Goliath of Night: This is a Warrior that is great for intercepting enemies in the mid lane that are chasing us. It can also cover other roles and functions.
Get Equipment
We can also assign our Warriors a range of items to increase their power or defense in battle. It’s not confirmed yet, but based on the interface shown, it’s possible that each Warrior can only carry one piece of equipment.
Field Items
This is a series of items that we can place on the battlefield and consume in battle. During the demo, they mentioned these items could revive one of our Warriors or heal the entire team. If we place one of these items but don’t use it, it will last until the next round. But as we said before, it will remove them after the Tournament is over.
Mechanism Exclusive Rewards
Every time we defeat the tribe, we can get certain Favors and the drops we saw before entering the battle. Such drops can be generic, such as POE Currency, Items or Jewels. But we can also get mechanism-specific rewards.
One of the exclusive rewards is Tattoos. Tattoos are applied to the attribute nodes of the character’s Passive Skill Tree. It replaces a bonus granted by another stat that might be more useful to us.
The most common ones are obtained by winning battles and can only be applied to small attribute nodes. But there is no limit to how much we can apply in the entire Passive Skill Tree. We’ll win Tournament with Hinekora and get some less common Tattoos.
Each of 10 Karui tribes has an exclusive item associated with it. We can also earn these items by fighting each tribe. This Goddess of Death Hinekora will give us a choice of 3 rewards when we win Tournament. She might offer us unique Tattoos, Omens, or even Hinekora’s Lock.
Outro
These items we talked about above can be traded, so we must pay attention to the price in the market to ensure the maximum profit. Next, we will continue to pay attention to other novel contents of the game core in POE 3.22 update. Such as new Gems, Keystones and the return of Sanctum adapted to the core.
Finally, please let me know if you like the mechanics they have shown in this new POE league. I want to know your thoughts. Anyway, let’s look forward to POE 3.22.
