MIAMI BEACH, FL – With Miami Swim Week in the books and New York Fashion Week right around the corner, no swimwear line and brand turned bigger heads and truly evoked South Florida vibes more than Tiare Hawaii and their founder, Jane Hoskins.
Founded in 2011, Tiare Hawaii is a unique clothing brand described as bohemian, with a touch of paradise, female-led brand that places importance on the production process. Instead of using digital print, they look to old-world techniques such as hand-stamped hot wax to create vivid new patterns on their fabric.
After debuting their new Soleil Resort Collection at Miami Swim Week: The Shows back in July, Tiare Hawaii is set to really turn the fashion world upside down with some of their new designs planned for 2024 and 2025.
Below is my Q and A with Ms. Hoskins, as we discuss Tiare Hawaii, Miami Swim Week and whats in store for their promising future.
Please tell readers what inspired you to create this line and what went into it?-
When we start on a new collection, we always look to what’s inspiring us collectively and then put it through our unique lens.
Living in Hawaii, we’re constantly reminded about the beauty and simplicity of nature, so we looked up to the sunshine that feeds our souls and created a collection made for sunny days, and starry nights.
The seasonal colors and patterns are inspired by vibrant foliage and ornate sand and stone that shapes the shores of paradise. It’s another reminder and celebration of our home and the Aloha Spirit.
I have to confess that I’ve never been to Hawaii, and yet your line seems to draw from the islands themselves, what elements of Hawaii as well as the culture went into this new line?
When you’re living day-to-day in postcard beauty it’s almost impossible not to be inspired. In fact, at times it’s almost overwhelming because the landscape is vibrant.
For Soleil, we zoomed out and focused on the artisan spirit of the islands–old-world craft and the colors of Hawaii that touch our lives. We contrasted those vivid colors with fresh white dresses that allow your personal style and mixed in bespoke touches including crochet, expressive cutwork, and embroidery in totally new ways.
How would you rate your experience showing Soleil at Swim Week in Miami?
I would say that the in-person experience at the show went great! We were excited to tie in our brand’s Hawaii roots so we had hula dancers open the show. We loved the models that we worked with and the energy from the audience was unreal!
We look forward to showcasing Tiare Hawaii on the runway next year. It’s also amazing to be able to make those personal connections at an event such as Miami Swim because sharing feedback and general energy is such a huge part of the community and vibe we try to incorporate into our work.
Any future plans for Soleil? Any more shows you are planning to show it at?
Miami Swim week was the only fashion show that we will be showing Soleil at. We will be showcasing our Spring “Postcards From Paradise” Collection at Hawai’i Swim Show on Big Island of Hawai’i. We’re just so excited to share this collection with everyone–working so far out can be a waiting game but having moments to show the pieces really bring such an awesome energy to what we do.
What’s next for Tiare Hawaii in 2023 and beyond?
Along with gearing up for our next runway show in Hawai’i and I am currently working on 2025 collections. We have some exciting brand collaborations in the works now and we are gearing up for a successful 2024. Also, we’re continually inspired by our community and feel so blessed to have so many folks who follow and engage with the brand.
It’s amazing to be in a time where we can open up our phones and get real-time feedback and have conversations with our fans. We really try to listen and think about how we can continue to make things that reflect our vision and serve those who give us so much support and encouragement.
Special thanks to Tiare Hawaii, Jane Hoskins and Christine Caravana at Michelle Marie PR for their help, time and assistance with this interview.
