B.J. Boyd of the Midland RockHounds, Double-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, takes home the Texas League All-Star MVP award. Boyd went 3-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, leading the South Division to a 10-3 lead over the North Division.

Entering the All-Star game, Boyd was hitting .305 over 69 games played. In 272 at-bats, he has 83 hits, 16 doubles, five triples, and one home run. Boyd has driven in 23 runs, drawn 18 walks, and has struck out 47 times.

Boyd ranked seventh in the entire Texas League in batting average. He is tied for first in triples and is fifth in hits. From 4/7 to 4/16, Boyd collected five consecutive multi-hit games and carried a 13-game hitting streak from 4/7 to 4/25. He has six three-hit games and one four-hit outing this season. Boyd has jumped across the Midland lineup, batting in all slots except sixth and ninth.

In the second inning, Boyd hit a two-run double that tied the game up at 2-2. He gave momentum back to the South, who was trailing heading into the inning, thanks to a two-run homer from Arkansas Travelers Chuck Taylor in the first inning.

Big moments from the Texas League All-Star game:

  • Midland’s B.J. Boyd went 3-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored to earn the Texas League All-Star Game MVP Award. Boyd doubled in a pair of runs to tie the game at 2-2 in the second and added a single that scored one in the fourth.
  • The South Division tallied seven runs in the fourth inning to take a 10-3 lead. The Corpus Christi tandem of J.D. Davis (two-run single) and Garrett Stubbs (three-run triple) highlighted the inning.
  • Arkansas’ Chuck Taylor homered against Corpus Christi’s Rogelio Armenteros in the top of the first inning to give the South a 2-0 lead. Tulsa’s Edwin Rios clobbered a solo shot in the top of the third inning.
  • South Division pitchers Ariel Jurado (FRI), Sam Bragg (MID), Cody Palmquist (FRI), Trey Wingenter (SA), Eric Yardley (SA), Kyle Lloyd (SA), and Shane McCain (FRI) combined to shut out the North Division for the final six innings.
