CLEVELAND- There is a chance that the Browns may be a destination for Dez Bryant. The Dallas Cowboys released their star receiver yesterday in a shocking move. Jerry Jones was concerned about Bryant’s lack of production as he didn’t even eclipse the 900 yard mark. He is known to easily accumulate 900-1,000 yards per season. However, he hasn’t gained 1,000 receiving yards the past three seasons.

The Cowboys’ rivals won’t sign him. The Redskins, Giants and Eagles already said they won’t agree to a deal with Bryant. This should immediately come across as a red flag. Surely the Giants would at least consider giving Manning another high-profile receiver that would fit nicely with Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shepard. The Eagles would definitely increase their odds of returning and perhaps winning the Super Bowl. The Redskins need a receiver like a thirsty person in the scorching desert needs water. What is going on here? Are these teams insane or is Bryant really not a high quality free agent? This is just crazy!

There are other really good teams for Bryant to sign with. New England was mentioned as a very strong possibility since they traded Brandin Cooks. The San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams may be perfect for Bryant. There isn’t much talk about the Browns being a destination though it’s hard to believe Cleveland would pass on signing him. However, there are some reasons why the Browns would choose drafting a receiver instead.

The Browns already gave Landry a lucrative contract worth up to an exorbitant amount of $75 million for five years. Are the Browns really willing to spend even more money this offseason after deals for Landry, Carlos Hyde, and TJ Carrie? This could be something the Browns will take into consideration. Also, let’s not forget there are stud receivers in the draft including Alabama’s Calvin Ridley, Southern Methodist’s Courtland Sutton, Texas A/M’s Christian Kirk, Maryland’s DJ Moore and University of Southern California’s Deontay Burnett. In fact, the depth at receiver in the draft would be the number one reason the Browns don’t sign Bryant. The lack of production is also a concern and the reason the Cowboys released him. Cleveland will only sign Bryant if he can get back to being the dominant receiver that he usually is.
