Of all the Israeli drummers and composers that draw on jazz music, Orian Rose is the coolest. He had established a name for himself as a prominent and adventurous jazz musician in the Israeli jazz scene. Deservedly, Rose performed in some of the most important festivals and venues in the scene, including the Jerusalem Jazz Festival, Hulon Jazz Festival, and Tel Aviv Jazz Festival. Orian is bringing his innovative and influential signature sound, which involves elements from the Israeli-Jewish traditional music, to this special re-opening of the legendary Shablul Jazz Club. He is presenting a highly anticipated new band and new original compositions.

Shablul Jazz, an iconic jazz venue located in Tel Aviv, holds immense importance in the Israeli music scene. Founded in the late 1980s, Shablul Jazz quickly established itself as a haven for jazz enthusiasts, musicians, and artists alike. Its significance lies in the pivotal role it played in shaping and promoting jazz in Israel.

The club served as a cultural hub, nurturing a thriving jazz community within the country. It provided a platform for both local and international jazz acts, fostering artistic growth and exchange. The venue showcased a diverse range of jazz styles, from traditional to contemporary, and allowed audiences to explore the genre’s rich tapestry. By presenting acclaimed musicians and emerging talents, Shablul Jazz contributed to the development and appreciation of jazz in Israel.

Beyond its role as a performance space, Shablul Jazz served as a catalyst for collaboration and experimentation. Musicians gathered at the venue, engaging in jam sessions and impromptu performances, creating a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere. It became a meeting point for artists to exchange ideas, refine their skills, and push the boundaries of jazz.

Shablul Jazz’s influence extended beyond its immediate vicinity. It inspired other venues and festivals to embrace jazz, further cultivating the genre’s presence in Israel. The venue’s dedication to preserving the authenticity and integrity of jazz music helped educate and engage audiences, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for this art form. Its existence and commitment to jazz created a nurturing environment for musicians, enriched the cultural landscape, and left a lasting impact on the development and dissemination of jazz music within the country.

Over many years, Orian’s tasteful drums and production have graced the works of his influential ensembles Pardes Quartet, O.J.O Trio, Lomipo band, Omer Adam, Orian Rose Trio, Orian Rose Quartet, and Orian & Dor 6tet, earning him a name as one of the best contemporary jazz drummers and band leader of his generation in Israel. We love his tasteful amalgam of intricate melodic lines over chugging, sensual modern jazz grooves. He seems to take a more untraditional, bop-tinged approach to swing, favouring a rich, mellow tone and combining horn-like melodies with subtle chord sequences. He has been a major force in the Israeli scene, and helped establishing acclaimed halls (such as Levontin 7 Tel-Aviv, The Yellow Submarine, The Ozen, and the Tmuna Theater,) as some of the most forward thinking venues in the nation. As what is considered to be a central event in the industry, we highly recommend his upcoming Shablul date.
