Where did the inspiration for your business come from?

I decided to create my own business once I acquired enough work experience through different positions and industries. I was able to note the gaps in service, optimize systems and match people and companies together. This winning combination of services and expertise has allowed me to be fluid and serve my partners well.

What do you love most about your industry?

What I love most about the energy sector is how far we have come through safe processes and the ability to earn from this resource. I match that enthusiasm with my home building projects, seeing the completion from purchases through building and finished product is incredibly rewarding.

How do you stay motivated in a professional role?

What keeps me motivated is my thirst for more. This means more information, wealth, projects, and time. Consistent work and fine-tuning my performance allows me to improve over time. I get paid based on my value, not my time, and my value is always being improved.

How do you maintain a work/life balance?

To maintain a work life balance I make sure I love the work I do and love the people I spend time with outside of work. Everything is interconnected but when you enjoy all of it it’s not an issue when work bleeds into home and vice versa.

Who is your role model to you and why?

My role model is my immigrant father. He came to Canada as a teen not speaking any English and dropping out of school. He was a multi-talented man who started several businesses including a successful chip company and two landmark Calgary restaurants. He was there in the kitchen, cleaning the restaurant, serving the guests, and working day in and out to grow and maintain these businesses from the ground up.

If you could provide one piece of advice for someone looking to enter the business landscape what would it be?

One piece of advice that has always stuck with me is the Wayne Gretzky quote: “You miss 100% of the shots you never take.” Go out there and shoot your shot until you catch the net. I believe in taking calculated risks. Business is highly competitive, so it’s important to go after your long-term goals.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

Over the next five years I see my company moving more into real estate. I would like to put together a community style project of row houses that would accommodate the average citizen and allow affordable pricing so that they can become homeowners.

What do you do outside of work?

Outside of work I am a devoted father to two children, one has a rare genetic disorder and I am his biggest advocate. I am married to the love of my life and enjoy spending most of my time with my family relaxing at home and enjoying our annual family vacations. My mental and physical health is worked out at the gym where I enjoy weight training. Occasionally you can find me on the ice playing hockey with my lifelong friends.
