Warner Brothers has officially announced a new film to their already packed slate. And that movie will be none other than a new solo Batman film. It is going to be directed by the Dark Knight himself, Ben “Batfleck” Affleck.
The rumors have been swirling for some time now, but today at Comic Con Affleck confirmed he will indeed be directing a Batman film. If you have seen “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”, you know Affleck’s take on the Caped Crusader was one of the highlights of the film. Affleck nailed his performance as Bruce Wayne, and fans have been clamoring for more. And that is exactly what they will be getting.
Affleck has experience in the directors chair, so this is not going to be anything new for the star actor. He both directed and starred in movies such as “The Town” and “Argo” in the past, which is exactly what he will be doing just that for the still untitled new Batman film.
The film has a lot to live up to, with the latest trilogy of Batman films, directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale, being extremely popular among fans. With such an iconic character, Affleck will need to make sure he puts his own stamp on the film. And given the performance we have gotten out of him as the character already, that is not something I think fans should be worried about.
There are early rumors that the film could take place in Arkham Asylum, with GQ being one outlet to report on the rumor, which you can read about here. And if that turns out to be true, that should provide Affleck with the perfect setting to make his Batman film stand out from the rest.
It is a setting that would allow Affleck to take advantage of several Batman villains, as he will have hundreds at his disposal. So we can only hope that rumor is true.
But the one thing that we now do know for certain is we are getting a new solo Batman film, and it will be directed by Ben Affleck. With Comic Con still on going, look for new potential news to drop at any given point on the project.
