This week’s Monday Night Football match-up is actually a fairly interesting one. The Cincinnati Bengals will come to the Meadowlands to take on the New York Giants in New Jersey. The Bengals find themselves coming off a bye week, which followed a trip to London that ended in a tie with the Washington Redskins. The Giants meanwhile come off a big time divisional battle where they came out on top against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Bengals are one of those teams that usually like to perform against where they stand in the odds. When they are favored, they usually do not cover. But when they are underdogs, they find themselves in the game. This week, they are getting two points, meaning I actually like them a bit. The offense is usually slowed down by Marvin Lewis’ play calling. But when all they need to do is win, that does not scare me. They only have a single win on the road this year however, which does bother me. The team has been putting up points lately, and will look to do just that against the Giants, who have had their ups and downs on defense this season.
As for the Giants, they are 3-1 at Metlife Stadium this year. That is certainly a good sign, as is the three game win streak they are currently on. But let’s not forget, they are coming off a seriously big win against a divisional foe. When that happens, I am always on alert for a letdown game. Having the extra day of preparation will certainly help the team, but their opponents have had an entire week off. So the extra rest is actually a plus for the Bengals more than the Giants, meaning I will continue to lean to Cincy in this one. I always hate myself when I trust the Bengals, but I have to do it this week.
