The Dallas Cowboys travel to the Nation’s Capital to take on the Washington Redskins, in the battle of the two 0-1 NFC East teams. The Cowboys come off a heartbreaking 20-19 loss to division rival New York Giants in week one, while the Redskins defense got torched at home by the Steelers in a 38-16 loss. So who will be able to turn things around and put one in the win column?
Well, the Redskins simply looked pretty awful in week one. Their running game was virtually nothing and vanished completely once the Steelers pulled away. But it was the defense that was the biggest culprit of the poor performance, as they made it seem like they had no idea what the term tackling meant.
The decision to not have corner Josh Norman cover Antonio Brown also left many puzzled, and I am interested to see if he will be assigned to Dez Bryant this week.
Luckily for the Cowboys, even if Norman is on Dez, they have other options. This game could be the breakout game for rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott, especially after seeing what DeAngelo Williams was able to do last week. Elliott is a more talented runner, and will be behind arguably the best offensive line in football.
Throw in the Redskins’ defense and we could be looking at the Elliott show this Sunday. This will help take some pressure off of Dak Prescott, who should have some further success with a more efficient running game.
So if you can’t tell, I think the Cowboys will be able to pull out a win here, and that is with them being three point dogs given they are on the road. Kirk Cousins will be able to beat the Cowboys defense a few times, which means that 45.5 over/under is looking like an over in my eyes as well. Scoring in the nation’s capital, with the Cowboys getting their first win of the season.
Line: Was -3, O/U: 45.5
Pick: Cowboys and the over
Result: Dal 27 – Was 23, Cowboys and the over
