There is a game down in the bayou this week in what is the twelfth week of the NFL season. The 4-6 Los Angeles Rams will be traveling East to take on the 4-6 New Orleans Saints. The Rams suffered a 14-10 loss in Jared Goff’s first career NFL start a week ago against the Miami Dolphins. The Saints also sustained a loss in week 11, as they fell to divisional rivals the Carolina Panthers by a score of 23-20.
The Saints now return home, where they typically play better football. The team will be relying heavily on the arm of Drew Brees this week, as they look to exploit the Rams secondary. Running back Mark Ingram is still in the concussion protocol, but the back is confident he will be able to suit up this week. One way or the other, the team is usually a high scoring team, and Brees has some of his bigger games at home. Their defense is what usually lets them down however, as they tend to give up just as many, and usually more, points than they score themselves. The fact that they take on a team with a different profile could lead to an entertaining game.

This will be Jared Goff’s second career start, and he will hope this one goes better than the first. I was not impressed from what I saw from Goff during HBO’s Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Los Angeles Rams, and I still feel he is not ready. So look for plenty of rookie pains as we go forward. Although this week should give Goff some chances to shine given the Saints defense. It could also turn into the Todd Gurley show, as this is the perfect game for him to emerge back on to the scene.
I am expecting a bit of a back and forth, as is typical for games in New Orleans. When the smoke settles, Goff’s faults will lead to the Rams once again falling.
