The Cleveland Browns patience with wide receiver Josh Gordon has come to an end. It now seems that either a trade or his release is inevitable. Reports are indicating that the San Francisco 49ers are a team of interest.
Which makes sense for Gordon and the 49ers. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has a previous relationship with the receiver and was the offensive coordinator in Cleveland in 2014. Of course any move to acquire him comes with risk due to his well documented history when it comes to addiction.
Still it’s one that general manager John Lynch and Shanahan need to take. Gordon gives the 49ers a legitimate no.1 receiver and the opportunity to help stretch the field giving more opportunities for one-on-one matchups for Pierre Garcon, Marquise Goodwin and George Kittle. Will also open up the running game for Matt Breida and Alfred Morris.
Yet, if Gordon does go to the 49ers. 2019 becomes even more interesting as there’s rumors that San Francisco is a likelihood for Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell. Imagine if Lynch is able to pull that off? A franchise wide receiver in 2018 and running back in 2019.
Here’s a look at the responses to the report that Gordon has interest in the 49ers.
Updated: Lynch has said that there’s been a call made.

#49ers have a decent collection of weapons, but they don’t have a guy that scares defenses. A healthy, sober Josh Gordon does that. Question is does he have his demons under control & would SF want to take the chance. https://t.co/Udm6H5agfm

49ers would be smart to really think about Josh Gordon, Garcon has a team 3 year option, we have some great number 2 with Goodwin and Pettis and Taylor in slot but to add Gordon would demand a double team and opens up everyone else and a true number one since T.O. KS knows him.

49ers swing and missed on several great players that we could of had this offseason, I’m all for Josh Gordon, and I think we have the leaders here to structure him. but I don’t think the 49ers will go for it. It’s clear they like the group of receivers they have now?
