The Oklahoma City Thunder lost shooting guard Hamidou Diallo to a severe injury in the fourth quarter of their 123-95 win over the Golden State Warriors.
Diallo appeared to hurt his knee, yet has been confirmed as an ankle injury and got stretchered off. From the moment he hit the ground he was in obvious pain and what was easily noticed before the game went to ommercial was a camera trying to get a closer shot. Thunder players immediately saw what was going on and put a stop it.
Was seeing how much pain Diallo was in necessary? Was it not obvious from the moment that it happened that the injury was seriou? It boggles the mind. Fortunately for Diallo, Warriors team physicians did give him good news as there was no serious injury suffered according to a Thunder spokesperson.
There was a recent discussion about showing the gruesome injury in sports. Such as the injury that happened recently to Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith or when Louisville guard Kevin Ware suffered a compound fracture.
Which begs the question for sports networks what guidelines are in place currently? Is the seriousness of the injury obvious? Should there be an announcment made if the replay is shown not to look? In some situations is the live feed the only time it will get shown?
For many who are curious the easiest way to see an injury now is through social media. Even then if view on Twitter there sometimes is a statement in which the viewer will accept before being to watch.
