You may not know her as one of Hollywood’s most promising up-and-comers, but if you blink too fast, you may have already missed the rising star that is Maika Monroe.

Monroe, a 22-year-old kiteboarder/actress from Santa Barbara, California has crafted quite an impressive resume of movies in her brief acting career with hits such as her 2012 acting debut in the drama At Any Price alongside Dennis Quaid, Zac Efron and Heather Graham, in the 2013 drama Labor Day with Kate Winslet, Tobey Maquire and Josh Brolin in horror films such as The Guest and the critically-acclaimed Cannes darling in the supernatural horror film, It Follows.

In what appears to be shaping up to be her year, Monroe could soon vault into the consciousness of A-list actresses thanks to her upcoming role of the now grown-up Patricia Whitmore in the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 popcorn sci-fi action film Independence Day, Resurgence.

While the sequel may not contain Will Smith, Monroe will be starring alongside veterans from the first film in director Roland Emmerich, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Vivica Fox and newcomers such as Liam Hemsworth and Jessie Usher, Monroe is set to vault into an entirely new stratosphere.

With two other movies such as the  now-playing sci-fi film The 5th Wave—based on the novel of the same name by Rick Yancey—opposite Chloe Grace Moretz and Live Schreiber and currently filming drams such as Hot Summer Nights and The Scent of Rain and Lightning, be prepared to see a lot of Monroe not only in 2016, but for years to come.
