Normally a Woman Crush Wednesday are reserved for an actress or model but this week I wanted to do something different. It wasn’t a hard sell for me because I think Candace Parker is stunning. When the average person sees her, they think a woman who plays basketball but me, I see legs, smooth skin, a determined personality and above all, I see confidence.
Parker was born in Illinois, to her mother Sara and father Larry. Her older brother Anthony spent time in the NBA, so it’s safe to say that basketball runs in her blood. As a high school player, she led her school to back-to-back state titles. Parker rose on the national scene in 2004 at the McDoanlds All-American game where she was not just the only female, but the only dunker in a field of boys to make a dunk, thus resulting in her win over future NBA players like Josh and J.R.Smith.
Parker attended the legendary University of Tennessee to play for the late Pat Summitt where she won two National Championship before forgoing her final year and entering the WNBA Draft. Parker was selected by the Los Angeles Sparks in 2008 with the 1st pick and while she has torn thru the league the one thing she covets most has eluded her, a championship. This season looks to be the one for Parker and the Sparks but only time will tell.
Her personal life is another reason I have a serious crush on Parker. She has a great family with former NBA player Sheldon Williams and their daughter, Lilaa Williams. For me, beauty goes beyond a camera lens, a movie set, music video or Instagram; sometimes it’s the girl next door or the one we play ball with.
