In case you’ve been living under a rock the last two years, chances are you may have missed the brilliance of Caitriona Balfe.
Balfe, a 36-year-old native of Dublin, Ireland has been leaving her mark in 18th century Scotland as a married former World War II trauma nurse-turned-healer Claire Beauchamp in the Diana Gabaldon-based novel series turned-hit Starz fantasy series ‘Outlander’.
Called ‘Sassenach’—the Gaelic word for “outlander’’ or as she is referred to “English—by her adopted Scottish clan, the McKenzie’s, the already-married Beauchamp would find love again in the arms of her future husband in Highlander warrior Jaime Fraser (Sam Heughan).
Thanks to her breakout role in Outlander, Balfe has garnered international acclaim and recognition in winning a People’s Choice Award, two Saturn awards and a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama TV Series.
Before becoming an actress–Balfe at a eye-catching 5’10—walked the modeling runway for the likes of Dolce & Gabbanna, Moschino, Roberto Cavalli, Max Mara, H&M and Oscar de la Renta for ten years before focusing primarily on acting.
Balfe would later go on to appear in films such as Super 8, Now You See Me and the Julia Roberts-George Clooney thriller ‘Money Monster’
