The 1990’s saw bands like Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Linkin Park and others rule the music world. However, there was also a band called Soundgarden and Audioslave that were very underrated that were around in the 1990s and 2000s. Unfortunately, I’m not writing this for something good.
Early Thursday morning, it was reported that Chris Cornell, lead singer of Audioslave and Soundgarden has passed away. He was only 52 years old. In the reports, the claim is Chris was playing in Detroit last night and was later found dead in his hotel room. So the assumption that people are making is that it was a possible overdose, however, that is still just a rumor. He left behind a wife and little children.
Chris Cornell was born in Seattle in 1964. He would then go on to form Soundgarden roughly 20 years later. The band’s first single then came out in 1987. He would end up going on to create several hit songs including Black Hole Sun. Soundgarden ended up disbanding in 1997, however, they reunited in 2010 and have been playing since. While Soundgarden was not together, he formed Audioslave with members of Rage Against the Machine. They would end up releasing three studio albums before disbanding in 2007.
As a person, Chris Cornell ended up being one of the mainstays of the grunge rock music. There are people who have put him in the same class as Kurt Corbain of Nirvana and Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. He also had a distinctive voice in his work, no matter if it was with Soundgarden, Audioslave, or his solo work.
Soundgarden was playing in Detroit on Wednesday night and was set to perform in Columbus, Ohio on Friday night. He is someone who will be surely missed by the people who listened to his music.
It is a sad day in the music industry
