The Heartland.

A wide and vast stretch of rolling cornfields, silos and farms that stretches as far east as Ohio, west as Nebraska, south as Oklahoma and as far north as Wisconsin and Iowa, is the very social and cultural heart and soul of America itself.

Thanks and due to it’s geographical location, agricultural importance and setting as the very embodiment of All-American Americiana, there is just a certain sense of hard work, family values, traditions and a simple way of life, that may be unmatched regionally.

As with all things in the heartland, sports is a way of life, whether it is from storied college football programs such as Ohio State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Michigan, Nebraska, renowned hoops powers such as Kansas, Michigan State, Indiana, Butler to NFL historical powerhouses such as the Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts, Detroit Lions and the Cleveland Browns, sports is a way of life all across the Midwest.

With such an amazing and unique cross-intersection of culture, sports and American life itself, the Heartland is that. The very heart of America.

Much like her native region, Nebraska-born travel model, Holly Nicole is also a unique cross-intersection of cultures.

An intoxicating ethnic mix of European and Native American cultures, the 5’8 curvy dark-tanned stunner can easily pass for a variety of cultures such as Latin, Italian, Russian, Brazilian and Croatian. Thanks to her unique and exotic looks, the 23-year-old Nicole has done runway modeling for ‘No Human Intentions’ by Nikki Fizer, the jewelry line, “Picka” by Chris Serrano and Marianna Harutunian–a celebrity designer for Madonna, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj.

Like all Midwesterners, Nicole is a die-hard sports fan—especially football—and loves her home state Nebraska Cornhuskers and the New England Patriots.

Below is my Q and A with Holly as we talk a little football, being a travel model, her unique background and how to keep them guessing in the modeling world.

Modeling Agency: I self-manage, but have a couple non-exclusive agency contracts for booking as well

Notable Brands, Publications and Media Featured in: I’ve runway modeled for the line ‘No Human Intentions’ by Nikki Fizer, a line by Vilma Vanzant, the jewelry line Picka by Chris Serrano and a line by Marianna Harutunian- a celebrity designer for Madonna, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj. Those were some of my favorites.

From one Midwesterner to another, you ready for some football? Oh, hell yea. NFL just started streaming past games on YouTube and I’m excited for kicking back on the couch at home instead of rushing to Buffalo Wild Wings.

Since you’re from Nebraska, how’s the corn? It’s delicious, I still find ways to fit it in all kinds of meals.

So, how many “corny” jokes do you get, being from the Cornhusker State? Well, about this many.

What’s it like being a traveling model and actress? I love it. I get to see places I typically wouldn’t otherwise while meeting cool people and creating incredible content. It’s truly a dream.

What has been the best place you’ve been too and visited so far? I spent a month total in Japan last year over 2 trips. It was the most striking landscape I’ve ever seen, with by far the most intriguing culture. I’m also a big nerd, so I spent some time seeing memorials and battlegrounds from the wars there as well.

You have a very unique, exotic, and diverse look; do you feel that has helped or hindered you in modeling? It helps immensely. In the industry, I’m often referred to as ethnically diverse or fluid. I’m European and Native American, but I can pass for most mixes as well as Latina, Italian, Russian, Brazilian, Croatian, etc because of my dark features and natural tan. The fact that my hair hits my beltline makes it easy to style almost any kind of way, my favorite being a big 80’s afro.

What kind of model are you (IG, fitness, bikini, lingerie)? I really don’t like to label what I do. I’m definitely not an Instagram model- I completely suck with IG, but I honestly do everything else. I started with a pageant, then runway, fashion, art, fitness and alternative. I’ve done a lot of lingerie and gothy type work lately and am about half way to my goal of gaining 30 lbs of muscle to start doing more fitness work, I’m huge in to athletics.

How long have you been modeling? I started out doing a small bridal show when I was 11, did a pageant when I was 12, took time off til I hit 15 and have been modeling most of the time since. So, it’s been off and on for nearly 12 years now with the time since I was 15 being professional and the last 2 years have been full time, it’s all I do now.

What first inspired you to become one? I am and have always been the chick who was one of the guys, so if my family and friends hadn’t pushed me in that direction as a way to get me to act a little like a girl, I may have never gotten into it. I really have to thank them for it. Once I was in though, I was hooked.

As a model, do you feel that more can be done by those in the industry? Why and why not? Absolutely. I wish more industry professionals would expand their horizons and branch into activism and become more educated. Regardless of how Acting and Modeling pan out for me, I’ll never stop being a nerd or a tomboy. I’ll keep taking classes on interesting topics, stay politically aware, and I’ll keep rock climbing and training MMA. The way I look at it, I want to be known when I die as more than someone people enjoyed looking at.

How do your loved ones and family feel about you being in modeling? They really support me. My dad is always asking what I have going on and my older brother always tells me he supports me but chooses to not follow too closely. I can definitely understand why. Haha

Where has been your favorite place to shoot? One of my favorite images thus far in my portfolio was shot in my back yard, and I love it partially BECAUSE people never know it was done in such a low maintenance way. I’m just in a baby pool full of milk, wrapped in fake barbed wire… and it’s sexy and alluring and creepy all at once.

What is the most exciting aspect of modeling? Creating scenes I’d never be in in real life. My ‘Psycho Babydoll’ shoot was a great example of that. I got to run around (lace bra, fishnets, a tutu and camo boots with pigtails in my hair) in a turn of the century hotel owned by a church in town. ….Yes, I’m now banned for life.

With fall here, what fashion and style tips and trends do you have for looking good when the temperature drops? I’m a huge fan of jeans with a tank top and a flannel. I’m also almost always in boots because I end up running off into the forest or climbing on something with my dog, Mongo half the time I’m outside.

Athleisure? Fashion or fitness fad? I love it. I just think for every day you wear yoga pants in public, you should probably also be wearing them to a gym. If we’re all going to look at your ass, make it a good one. ;P

Within the industry, who is your modeling inspiration? There are so many incredible models and actresses. As for the actresses, Michelle Rodriguez and Charleze Theron have always been huge role models of mine. Playing roles where women kick ass and take names And doing your own stunts get you an A+ in my book. For the models, being a bisexual woman I’m a bit biased to the ones I find attractive, but my favorites are Emily Ratajkowski, Adriana Lima and the incredible androgyny Queen: Ruby Rose.

What is your workout and fitness secret to staying in shape? I have a set workout for when I go to the gym, but I also work it into random activities through my day. I gained 10 lbs of muscle by incorporating squats into brushing my teeth. I do 200 a day while I brush my teeth, 100 each time.

What would you say is your best feature? I’m told my eyes all the time and I tend to agree, but recently I’m really proud of the work I’ve put in to gaining muscle weight in my glutes so…

Any future projects coming down the pipeline? I’ve actually been trying out for some really amazing films recently, so I’m hoping to get more in to acting. But on the modeling side I always have great things coming my way, I’ve been lucky to work with some insanely talented people.

Outside of modeling, what are your hobbies? I’m involved in a professional wrestling circuit and I rock climb as often as I can. I love walking to the park and playing catch, working on my cars and racing.

Sports question: Who are your favorite teams and clubs? Oh boy. Though it’s not favorable recently, I’m a big Patriots fan. My roommate has gotten me more in to basketball lately too though and I’m hoping to make it to a Thunder game this coming season.

What advice would you give to women aspiring to get into modeling? Stay yourself. I’m not a girly girl and I don’t pretend to be, and people love it when you aren’t what they expect. Keep’em guessing and be you. The rest will fall in place. =)
