I usually tell people that NFL Mock Drafts are very hard to pay attention to until April 1st. You really have to see who is signed in free agency before seeing what they really need for the draft. Now that free agency is mostly complete, it is time to really start predicting who will be picked where. So, with that said, below is my 1st round mock with explanations for every pick. I also threw in my predicted picks for the four teams that do not have a 1st round pick.
Pick/Team | Player | Position | School | Comments |
AZ | Kyler Murray | QB | Oklahoma | The decision seems to be made here, whether it’s smart or not. |
SFF | Nick Bosa | Edge | Ohio State | Fills a big need for SF. Even though he may be more of the safe pick. |
NYJ | Quennen Williams | DL | Oklahoma | Could go with Allen, but Williams is arguably the best player in the draft. |
OAK | Josh Allen | Edge | Kentucky | Would be a huge get here for Gruden. His version of Mack. |
TBB | Devin White | LB | LSU | Ultra-Athletic LB going to a team switching to a 3-4. |
NYG | Montez Sweat | Edge | Mississippi St | NYG stay true to themselves and take the best available and get a big time pass rusher. |
JAX | Jawaan Taylor | OT | Florida | Everywhere you look, Taylor is linked to the Jags. |
DET | Clelin Ferrell | Edge | Clemson | Lions get a pass rusher to replace the hole left by Avril. |
BUF | Ed Oliver | DL | Houston | Top 5 player falls to the Bills due to team needs. |
DEN | Drew Lock | QB | Missouri | Lock has been associated with Den since the draft process began. |
CIN | Dwayne Haskins | QB | Ohio State | Some have him as the top QB, but weird things happen in this draft. |
GBP | T.J. Hockenson | TE | Iowa | Jimmy Graham was god awful last year, this gives Rodgers a dependable weapon. |
MIA | Brian Burns | Edge | Florida St | Best things for a rebuilding team are QBs, OTs, and Edges, Dolphins get a good one here. |
ATL | Rashan Gary | DL | Michigan | Would fit well inside next to Grady or he can play on the outside. |
WAS | DK Metcalf | WR | Ole Miss | Combine stud falls to the Redskins, who desperately need a big WR. |
CAR | Jonah Williams | OT | Alabama | The Panthers biggest issue is OL, that’s not a secret. |
NYG | Daniel Jones | QB | Duke | Whispers are loud that the Giants like him more than any other QB. |
MIN | Garrett Bradbury | OL | NC State | OL could be the Vikings only weakness. This fills a huge need. |
TEN | Christian Wilkens | DL | Clemson | Titans covet Wilkens and I will not be surprised if they moved up to get him. Robinson isn’t shy with trades. |
PIT | Devin Bush | LB | Michigan | If Bush is still there at 20, there is no doubt the Steelers take him. |
SEA | Greedy Williams | CB | LSU | Seattle needs an athletic CB and get the most athletic DB in the draft. |
BAL | Marquise Brown | WR | Oklahoma | Ravens could use a RB, but I think they get a WR. Could be a different WR, but a deep threat. |
HOU | Cody Ford | IOL | Oklahoma | The Texans 1st 3 picks should be OL. By FAR their biggest need. |
OAK | Byron Murphy | CB | Washington | Raiders really like Murphy and I doubt he gets by them. |
PHI | Andre Dilliard | OT | Washington St | Jason Peters is slowing down and could be done at year’s end. |
IND | Dexter Lawrence | DL | Clemson | Colts need a big stud NT in the middle of the DL. If in shape, Lawrence is a monster. |
OAK | Josh Jacobs | RB | Alabama | Jacobs could be easily looked at as Marshawn Lynch 2.0. |
LAC | Dalton Risner | OT | Kansas St | Chargers need to keep their older QB, Philip Rivers, protected. |
KCC | Julian Love | CB | Notre Dame | Love fills the void left by Jason Peters, who was traded away last offseason. |
GBP | Greg Little | OT | Mississippi | The highest paid QB in the league needs to be kept clean. He has been hurt the last 2 years. |
LAR | Mack Wilson | LB | Alabama | They have the offense, now the Rams address their defense. |
NEP | Jerry Tilery | DL | Notre Dame | Most will mock a TE, but filling the role up the middle is even more important for the Pats. |
