After a 114-106 loss to the Sacramento Kings on Monday night, the G0lden State Warriors are in unfamiliar territory. As for the first time under head coach Steve Kerr the team is down 0-2 in a playoff series.
Yet like game one, the Warriors wasted their chance at a victory. What tonight’s effort reflected was a microcosm of the 2022-2023 season especially while playing on the road. Turnovers and fouling, especially in the third quarter when in the first minute and half, the Kings were already in the penalty.
Shockingly the Kings did not put the Warriors away, though there was plenty of opportunity to.
The Warriors were able to chip away at the lead even after Draymond Green got ejected for a flagrant two after Domantas Sabonis grabbed his leg, Sabonis also received a technical on the play.
Even with Green out of the game, the Warriors were able to tie the game up and kept it close till the final three minutes. After a Klay Thompson three that cut the lead to one, Sabonis came up with a big offensive rebound and putback, Stephen Curry then missed a three, and De’Aaron Fox made a three. That was the end for Golden State.
Sabonis sealed the victory with a dunk with 7.5 seconds left.
Overall the Warriors committed 26 fouls, turned the ball over 20 times, and shot 13-40 from three. One of the few bright spots was Andrew Wiggins who in his second game back scored 22 points, shot 9-19 from the field and more importantly played over 39 minutes, and was in the starting lineup.
Beyond that if the Warriors are going to win game three at home, Jordan Poole needs to step up. He once again struggled this time with a one for seven performance and was 0 for 3 from the three-point line.
Still with all the careless mistakes, fouls, turnovers, poor shot selection, this Golden State teams seems more likely to get swept at this point.
