INDIANAPOLIS, IN— With the NFL Combine now in the books and teams and players beginning to prepare for their Pro Days before the 2023 NFL Draft in Kansas City, here are my thoughts and observations from Indianapolis.
- It seems to me that QB Anthony Richardson is on everyone’s lips and that his stock is rising. Perhaps all the way to No.1? Thanks to his jaw-dropping vertical of 40.5 and running a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash, don’t be shocked if a QB-needy team trades up for the former Gator.
- Former Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Jalen Carter being in Indianapolis after being charged in Georgia says a lot about him, especially if he is found innocent. Sadly, he may drop out of the top ten, unless something drastically happens.
- Which team will be the one to draft a 5’10, 204-pound QB in Bryce Young? Don’t rule out the Colts who seem thirsty and desperate enough to do it, after recent failures with Matt Ryan and Carson Wentz under center. Due to his size and build, Young may be best suited for an indoor dome team, that can best mask his “shortcomings”. The 2021 Heisman Trophy winner already had the knack, intangibles to make plays, with many already calling him mini-Mahomes.
- Don’t rule out Kentucky QB Will Levis possibly going No.1 overall. Look, it’s silly season now, and with the Spandex Olympics now over in Indy, one team is going to fall in love with his big “cannon” arm and prototypical body (6’4 and 229 pounds) and pay the Chicago Bears’ ransom for the right to take him. As someone who got to see him live in less than ideal conditions down in Lexington, he didn’t pass my eye test, but now it’s March and with Levis indoors and in front of NFL talent evaluators, things could change between now and Kansas City.
