LOS ANGELES, CA — With the 2023 NFL Draft now in the books, and the 2024 NFL Draft one year from now in Detroit, reigning Heisman Trophy winner, University of Southern California QB Caleb Williams is now on the clock as the projected No.1 pick.
Williams, who claimed the Trojans record-breaking eighth Heisman*—and seventh official, as Reggie Bush’s 2005 award was vacated—award threw for 4,357 yards, 42 touchdowns and five interceptions, set a Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic record in throwing five touchdown passes, while passing for 462 yards in a 46-45 upset loss to No.16 Tulane in Arlington.
With top target, WR Jordan Addison selected 23rd overall by the Minnesota Vikings, and C Andrew Vorhees selected by the Baltimore Ravens, Williams is going to be with two familiar faces on offense this coming season.
In a draft class that features Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr, and Williams’ biggest rival in University of North Carolina QB Drake Maye, Williams is going to face some stiff competition in becoming the first repeat winner of the Heisman since Buckeyes RB Archie Griffin did it for Ohio State in 1974 and 1975.
With primetime matchups against longtime rivals Notre Dame in South Bend and UCLA at the Coliseum, as well as a revenge game at home vs Utah—who defeated Williams’ twice in Salt Lake and the PAC-12 title game in Las Vegas, you can bet that both Williams and the Trojans have this game circled on their calendar.
If there was ever one game that Williams wants to use to stamp his claim as the 2024 top pick and cement his second Heisman, it is against the Utes on his home field.
With a little over 100 days till USC begins its 135th season, and their 64th—and final year—in the PAC-12 before leaving for the Big Ten in 2024, if there is ever a QB who can elevate a team, it is the guy called “Superman” by many.
If there is ever a head coach, who knows how to get the best out of his QB’s it is Lincoln Riley, just ask Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray, and if there is one team who has that “it” factor that can have a say in the 2024 CFP Playoffs, it is the men of Troy.
Ignore USC and the high-octane Trojans at your own peril, No West Coast bias here, but the only person who can stop Williams from hearing his name called first in Detroit next year is himself.
