Today Julio Jones officially announced his retirement from the National Football League (NFL).
Jones last played during the 2023 season with the Philadelphia Eagles. He appeared in 11 games in which he caught 11 passes for 74 yards and three touchdowns. At his peak he was one of the best receivers in the NFL and he is the Atlanta Falcons all-time leading receiver.
He spent 10 seasons with Atlanta where he caught 848 passes for 12,896 yards, 60 touchdowns, and averaged 15.2 yards per reception. His best season came in 2o15 in which he caught 136 passes for 1,871 yards, eight touchdowns, and averaged 13.8 yards per reception.
Overall he made seven Pro-Bowls, two First-Team All-Pros, and three Second-Team All-Pros. He led the NFL in once, caught over 100 passes three times, seven 1,000 yard plus seasons including three for over 1,500 yards, one double-digit touchdown season, and there were four seasons when he averaged over 100 yards per game. Also, he was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame All-2010s Team.
In the playoffs Jones caught a total of 77 passes for 992 yards, seven touchdowns, and averaged 12.9 yards per reception.
His ranks in NFL history are: fifth in yards per game, 16th in receiving yards, 27th in receptions, 38th in yards from scrimmage, and 61st in touchdowns.
There is no question he will get put in the Falcons Ring of Honor. Now for some the question becomes will he make the Pro-Football Hall of Fame? Yet the answer to that is for another day.
