When La La Land premiered nobody could have envisioned the film to be this well received. Tying the record for most Oscar nominations in a single year with 14, the film was a hit among Academy voters and movie fans. Many have praised Emma Stone for her role in La La Land, and she was rewarded in a big way.
Already a brilliant actress, Stone gave the performance of a lifetime in La La Land. She was able to showcase many aspects of her acting ability, especially her wonderfully charming singing voice, which is on display throughout the entire film. It’s for these reasons that she was nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards.

Previously nominated for a Best Supporting Oscar in 2015, Stone is no stranger to Hollywood’s biggest night. Best Actress is a category that features some huge names including previous Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Natalie Portman. While some will say Stone is way out her league with these women, she’s proven throughout the years that she can hang with the Hollywood elite.
It’s hard to believe what Emma Stone has become over the last decade. We’ve seen her star in films such as Superbad and The House Bunny, which were far from Oscar-caliber performances. It’s been patience and hard work that have
gotten Stone to where she is now, and ironically that’s exactly the type of character she portrays in La La Land.
While I haven’t seen the performances from Streep, Portman, or the other nominated women, I’d find it hard to fathom Emma Stone not winning the Oscar. There are some actresses that just take over the role they are given, and without question that was Emma Stone. She’s practically a sure thing going into Oscar Night, especially after her win at the Golden Globes.
It’s a near certainty that La La Land will take home quite a few Oscars. Emma Stone is going to win one of them. It will be the first of many Academy Award winning performances in her career.
