Sophia Wolov is a bold storyteller, producer, and writer making waves in Hollywood. A native of South Africa, she migrated to California to pursue a career in film and television. She’s written an produced multiple films and worked with some great people both in her home country of South Africa and here in America.
Sophia’s journey has been all about working hard and trying. At Chapman, she assisted with coordinating master classes with such Oscar-winning talent as Billie Eilish, Brendan Fraser, and Justin Hurwitz. She embraced every opportunity to engage with the industry, reading scripts for big-name producers and working with Academy Award-winning director Alexander Payne. Additionally, she did great work for Love Riot Productions, where she was a developer on a proof-of-concepts for various projects
Her passion for storytelling is evident in the creative projects she has undertaken. Sophia produced the music video Girl Tripping as a writer.
Sophia Wolov is dedicated to impactful storytelling that inspires transformation beyond scripted work. She co-founded the Freedom Filmmaking Collective and produced “Nonna, A Pangolin Story,” a documentary focused on pangolin conservation. This project holds a special place in her heart, allowing her to observe these endangered animals up close and raise awareness about their situation.
Indeed, Sophia attributes much of her growth to the mentorship of such influential figures as Stephen Galloway, Joe Rosenberg, and Jill Condon. Their insight has formed her approach to storytelling and, eventually, the production process. Creativity for Sophia is persistence–persistence akin to swimming wave after wave so that each time it pushes one down, one emerges stronger to tackle.i
