WWE may be making a huge mistake by taking Braun Strowman out of the main event picture. Strowman, who is the “Monster Among Men” in more ways than one on Monday nights, won a tag team battle royal to win a title match against The Bar – Sheamus and Cesaro.
Strowman, who was being booked as the next big thing and a real threat to the Universal Title that Roman Reigns will capture at WrestleMania 34, is a man on an island without a real place in WWE given the current story tract.
A run with the Raw Tag Team Titles would be one way to keep him part of the top layer of the company’s immediate future.
The big man must decide on a tag team partner, which isn’t as easy as it may sound. I would give Elias the best chance to teaming with Strowman, but there are others who may “shock” us heading into WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans.
WWE has done this before. A wrestler gains momentum, gets over with the fan base and then takes a step or two back because of change in direction, a new plot line or a lack of interest in moving the performer forward.
Strowman is so over as a monster heel, he is as popular as anyone on the current WWE roster. The company should take Strowman’s character and run with it. So far, because of the commitment to making Reigns “the man” on Monday nights, it has not happened.
As Abel Morton of Sky Sports wrote, there are a few contenders to join Strowman in the ring for his WrestleMania 34 moment, with Elias seemingly the frontrunner.
Is Braun Strowman ready to ‘Walk with Elias?’ Strowman and Elias have been embroiled in an entertaining feud over the past couple of months which has seen Strowman destroy Elias with a massive cello and slam a piano onto him. But will all be forgiven for the sake of championship gold?
It is possible that Elias may have earned Strowman’s respect to the point that arguably the two biggest success stories in WWE of the past year will join forces.
Elias is another wrestler WWE has given a push since the beginning of the year and has performed well in the ring with Seth Rollins, Reigns and John Cena. The recent feud between he and Strowman could mirror Sheamus and Cesaro in many ways. Two wrestlers who need each other to succeed.
If Elias can’t beat Braun Strowman, why not join him?
Morton touched on other wrestlers that Strowman could choose, including Samoa Joe, Bray Wyatt and Big Show. The one I find most intriguing is Big Cass, who has been out of action due to injury.
The move would be pure Vince McMahon genius, as he loves big, imposing wrestlers in the “bigger is better” way of thinking.
“Much like Samoa Joe, the rumblings of late suggests that the seven-foot tall New Yorker is ready to make a return to the ring. Cass was at the early stages of his singles run when he was injured on Raw during a match with former WWE superstar Enzo Amore,” writes Morton.
“This could be a tag team that, if given time, could rival the legendary impact of The Brothers of Destruction, Kane and The Undertaker.”
