Traveling to a far-off part of the world provides a significant chance for both cultural immersion and personal development. Learning new customs, sampling foreign foods, and interacting with people all spark a profound appreciation for the diversity and depth of the human experience. Engaging in such experiences provides inspiration, inciting creativity, empathy, and a revitalized sense of mission as people utilize the beauty and knowledge of other cultures to improve their own lives and the lives of others. This is exactly what founder and CEO Brook Eddy did following her trips to India.
Literature and the beverage industries have been profoundly impacted by the legacy of Brook Elizabeth Eddy, a name that is synonymous with creativity, social concern, and entrepreneurial fortitude. Eddy was born in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, on December 11, 1973. His life story is a tribute to the strength of desire, tenacity, entrepreneurship, and the pursuit of social change.
Following her graduate studies at the University of Michigan, she traveled to India to study a social movement based on Bhakti (devotion). It was there that the spark ignited that would combine her passion for social justice with her spirit of entrepreneurship. Eddy became engrossed in the elaborate customs of Bhakti, or devotion, and became fascinated by the variety of tastes in chai as well as the rituals that surround its use. Motivated by this encounter, she left for the United States with the goal of bringing Bhakti to everyone.
She started Bhakti Chai in Boulder, Colorado, driven by the desire to create genuine chai that was enhanced by the warmth of freshly pressed organic ginger and spices from India. And so began an incredible journey filled with creativity, tenacity, and unrelenting dedication to her values.
Thanks to its unique flavors and dedication to sustainability, Bhakti Chai quickly gained praise. The business increased the number of distinctive beverages it offered to over eighteen, from matcha mango sparkling tea to cold brew coffee chai, under Eddy’s direction. Furthermore, emulating Eddy’s philosophy of combining profit and purpose, Bhakti Chai became one of Colorado’s first Certified B Corporations.
Eddy’s literary debut, STEEPED: Adventures Of A Tea Entrepreneur, goes beyond the conventional boundaries of memoir. It weaves research in a creative nonfiction form with stories from India and launching a company. The book, published in 2023, the book tells the story of Eddy’s trip from the Colorado Rockies to the busy streets of India in a compelling mix of travelogue and business memoir.
STEEPED is a moving tribute to Eddy’s everlasting fortitude in the face of hardship. Eddy’s tale is one of success over adversity, from overcoming the difficulties of being a single mother to enduring the storms of unstable finances. In twined with evocative accounts of her journeys across India and contemplations on the metamorphic influence of chai, the book provides priceless perspectives for aspirational thinkers, foodies, feminists, and prospective entrepreneurs.
Eddy’s charitable activities demonstrate that her influence goes beyond the corporate world. She started GitaGiving.org, a platform devoted to assisting women and girls, advancing social justice, and halting climate change.
Eddy’s journey as founder and CEO is replete with honors and awards, such as recognition from prestigious magazines like Entrepreneur Magazine and the San Francisco Chronicle, but she is unwavering in her resolve to promote significant change. Her narrative offers hope to those who aspire to be change-makers and entrepreneurs by serving as a constant reminder that everything is achievable with enough determination, passion, and ginger.
