BYU Basketball starting Point Guard Nick Emery is under BYU and NCAA investigation for receiving benefits from a booster.

First reported by the Salt Lake Tribune, BYU officials contacted the NCAA to make them aware of what allegedly has conspired. Emery is accused of receiving free tickets and travel to concerts, amusement parks, and access to a free new car. Emery and his family have declined comment at this time.

BYU has hired a lawyer with NCAA infractions law experience.

This is not a good look or time for the BYU program to have this scandal as the Cougars are looking to make a serious run for their first WCC title. While I expect Emery to be suspended for at least this season, I will be very interested how the NCAA comes down against BYU if the allegations are proven to be true. If the NCAA decides to BYU may receive a post season play ban, loss of scholarships, and loss of wins if this occurred during previous seasons.

When more information becomes available, you’ll be sure to hear it here at INSCMagaine.
