Carlos Hyde, the stud running back of the scarlet and grey, might be drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2014. The main question is his character due to an alleged assault at a Columbus bar that resulted in a suspension. This prevented him from showcasing his skills to the O-H-I-O faithful in the first few games of the season. He had to get back on track afterwards and that’s what he did, particularly the previous two games against the Northwestern Wildcats and Iowa Hawkeyes. The Ohio State Buckeyes stud running back gained 168 yards in the road victory against the Wildcats.
He followed that performance with 149 yards against the iron core Hawkeye rush defense that ranks 15th overall in NCAA Football with opponents averaging 114.9 yards per game.
Criticism of Hyde
Fans will likely raise some concerns over the suspension limiting Hyde’s season rushing total to an unspectacular 590 yards. His off the field incident will have fans and N.F.L. executives somewhat concerned.
NFL Talent
This is Hyde’s senior year and a future in the NFL is certain. Fans don’t need to get caught up in his numbers, his skills are a match for the Browns and they would be wise to consider him as a true replacement for Trent Richardson. He is tough, fights for yards, and has a lot of speed. This is the running back that Browns Head Coach Rob Chudzinski should be coveting right now. The Browns fan base would likely party over drafting him, knowing full well his skills speak for him. In the N.F.L., skills mean more than collegiate stats.
He is a threat in the end zone as he racked up seven touchdowns so far.
Some Browns fans would rather see a shutdown corner opposite of Joe Haden but building the offense with playmakers and blockers is crucial right now. Willis McGahee is a fairly aged veteran so drafting a running back is logical. Hyde is the fast yet powerful runner that Browns fans typically dream of drafting.
Some N.F.L. executives may raise concerns over his numbers if the stats don’t blow them away; therefore it is possible Hyde can be a second or third round pick. However, if he continues to post over 100 yards per game from now until the Buckeyes BCS Bowl game is over, he is likely to be a first round selection. His off the field incident decreased his value though.
It will be interesting to see how Hyde finishes the season. The Browns will have the opportunity to ride Hyde like Ohio State has done already, and rack up huge numbers and wins.
Tonight’s performance will help
