Shameik Moore is relatively unknown to the movie-going audience. He doesn’t have a big Hollywood blockbuster to his name, but that’s about to change.

The actor is slated to star in the film, Dope, which has been getting an increased amount of publicity recently. Dope might be the big break Moore needs to be considered for some bigger opportunities in the future, but is he ready for the spotlight?

The 20-year-old actor has never been the star attraction. His most notable work might be from the short lived Cartoon Network series, Incredible Crew, which ran for 13 episodes. Moore’s only other noteworthy credit came from the 2012 film, Joyful Noise, where he had a moderately small role.

Moore isn’t just an up and coming actor. He is also an aspiring musician. The actor dropped a mix tape titled, I am Da Beat, in 2012, and plans to release a studio album sometime in 2015. Moore also recorded tracks for the soundtrack to Dope, which were produced by Grammy Award-winning artist, Pharrell Williams, someone he can relate to when it comes to music.

“Pharrell is a person who has influenced the the world,”
Moore told Variety. “I see myself in him, so I said, You’re an Alpha, and I’m an alpha, and I want to be able to express myself in every way, like you do.”

The most immediate concern for Moore isn’t music, but his acting career. So far, Dope has been met with positive reception, especially during its screening at the Sundance Film Festival, where the film received a standing ovation. Moore admitted to Teen Vogue that he was indeed emotional during the moment.

“I was fighting tears up there. This is a crazy blessing. I feel like I’m being guided and it’s out of my control.”

Shameik Moore might be ready to take the next step in the entertainment industry. He is slated to appear in Baz Luhrmann’s new Netflix series, The Get Down, and is well on his way to reaching heights once thought impossible.

So, is Shameik Moore ready for the spotlight? I guess we are all about to find out.
